So, I'm on the hunt for a Slingshot Phantasm PFI 730 for windfoiling with smaller sails. I stumbled upon a sweet deal for a new JP FreeFoil ES 2022, going for 900?. I initially had my eyes set on a Slingshot board, but with this discount the JP might be to good to pass up on. JP isn't that popular around my area so are there some people that can tell me how the board is and will it work with the pfi 730? I have quite some foiling experience and i weigh around 77kg, I'm torn between the 115L and 130L version. Which one would would be the best?

It looks like it has track mounts? That will make everything a lot easier to get positioned right. Slingshots masts need to be pushed more forward in comparison to some other foils. Looks to have both wing and windsurf strap positions.

I'm a bit heavier than you (90kg), and found the 114 Wizard a bit too small for lighter winds. Not sure how the JP compares volume wise as I think the slingshot was a little less than advertised. Looks like the JP is significantly longer at 207 vs. 178. My foilx is 193 but it's the 145l and while corky I don't have a problem with the volume.

What wind range are sail sizes are you going to primarily use it in?

Im looking to sail with 3.5 to 6.0 and wind ranging from 12 to 25 knots probably

I think 115L unless you wanted it to be your ultra lighwind board

FYI I saw the SS Wizard 114 and 130 for $1050.00 from a couple sources.

agree with the 115 as the recommended choice for your weight and wind range.

as for the board itself, i found it to be a really really good "freemove" foilboard. JP got a lot of things right with that board - a couple of friends and i joke that it may have served as the template for the Fanatic Stingray LTD

haven't tried a recent SS board, so can't give you a comparison.

I'd say the JP Freefoil 115L as well, for that sail range. I am 77kg too, but my wife (admittedly only 59kg) did over 3000km on hers last year, loves it.

The EVA on the later models extends a bit further past the mast track IIRC, and it's needed IMO. We use the tracks exclusively after starting with the Tuttle Box. Wife moves the foil mast position back slightly in the track on super strong days, very little though. 3.3 to 5.3 sails. SABFoil 799/399 with a 92 Mast (Old one, not Kraken).

One comment I would make (referring to the EVA foam cover I mentioned above) is that it just seems a wee bit 'fragile' all over compared to most windsurfing boards I've ridden. The deck cracks with very little pressure (harness hook?) and it's taken a few 'innoccuous' bumps which ended up putting one or two wee holes in it...
