Does the physics of this look wrong to anybody else????
the foil looks too far back to me, I'de expect it to be closer to the front foot, force on the mast foot in drive mode is down not up surely???

yes i agree it doesnt quite look right....also there is no rail in the water providing any lateral resistance...im guessing it would have a big tendency to always want to point/blow the nose downwind..???

It obviously works though....they should take a hint from 14 foot dinghy sailing and put an adjustable throttle style grip on the boom that can change the angle of the foil to suit conditions

looks wierd and fun at the same time?! I wonder how well it gybes? Maybe it's a get off and turn it around to go in the opposite direction type of windsurfer. I bet the folk at the broadwater will love it I can vision a plethora of middle aged men with GPSs strapped to their arms, zipping back and forth at the trainless on foil boards during 2006. Every new day someone will be setting a new sailing speed record.

I am thinking you are closer to middle aged than you care to admit. If you live to be 90. Then the middle ages would be the middle 30 years. So if you are over 30, Welcome to the Middle ages!

I though it looked wrong at first decrepit but after looking at it again I think the rear stabilzer on the foil is there to give the foil a very large pitch-up moment.

This, I imagine, would have to be adjusted for the weight of the sailor.
I'm surprised it works so well though.

I saw Kevin Ozee (a highly talented sailor) sailing one at Kanaha. It was a "aw yea, that was interesting. what else do you have?" moment. Carving gybes are completely out of the question. Seriously, it was SO boring.

you shouldn't need adjustment on them like the 14's. i've sailed a moth with hydro's and you use your weight to control the pitch more then the tiller extension which is connected to the flaps of the foil on the rudder.

it makes it go a lot faster and the only height issue is that you apparent wind forces you to slow down or point lower.

The 14's use the foils mostly for pitch control which does make them go a lot faster but they are only allowed to use them on the rudder so cant get the whole boat out of the water.Check out the international Moth site. There are some guys here in WA who are realy developing foil sailing in the Moths. Wouldnt mind having a go at foil wind poling though looks like fun. Has anyone over here had a go at making one ?

A few years ago there was a guy in the estuary flailing around with a couple of outriggers tied to his board, was quite amussing for a while!

but i'm only 21 its reassuring to know that you'll get to middle-aged-ness before I do, so you can welcome me when i get there

Perhaps marketing forces are trying to start a new fad???
