What top speeds can we get?

NM, Alphas & 1hr.

Top speed on a foil in a decent breeze? All i hear & read is the lower wind ability but there are various size foils out there for different conditions. Whats new news?

If you're a ka72 member you can search Pierre henri's tracks on the group "New Cal windfoilers" (not mine they are crappy, can't manage to get over 15 knts for the time being !)

Im struggling over 93cm wide board or foiling.
We have a wide board here so thats sort of pushing me that way.
The lure of small sail in the light wind is another pro.

What sort of distances do you do in a session? The above was 5kms.

My sessions are around 8/10 km for the moment (I still fall in at least once on a tack... )
Can't wait to receive my NP foil, I demoed one, stability is the key for me !!
Most of the time I have to stop because the wind peaks up. I then change boards and keep the same sail.

Experienced guys will go on for hours across the bay.

What I really enjoy about foiling is that it's nearly a different sport (though still plenty of windsurfing skills required), the absence of noise and chop, and being able to keep only "small" sails. (no more extra long boom/490 mast and 8.6+ sails)

Not to mention the big smile on my face while my mates are sitting on the beach waiting for the wind to come up....

20kts and in no way can my slingshot foil get to the 30 being recorded by professionals on full carbon kit.

Heres a few postings of what our Foils can produce on the Swan River, Perth from Lunny, Scarrgo and Darryl.
Sure does get a bit butt clenching at these speeds but fun to try.
At least half a dozen regulars Windfoiling in Perth, not all use GPS though.
If youre thinking about Foiling, stop the thinking and do it. A magic feeling in 12-16knots, so smooooth

I have the lokefoil envol and use a tushingham 6.5 with a falcon 142. always check gps results out after and find it quite strange it's like it has 2 gears, once up and going it sort of sits at 18kts if a gust hits I either feather the sail and it stays at that speed or go for it and it goes to 20.8 20.9kts and be buggered if I can get it over,
not tried any other board or sail combo, and to be honest for someone that chases the numbers I'm not really bothered 1, it's more than enough fun at 18-21kts of speed and 2, its not as forgiving at 21 and I've stacked it,

foiling is like your Mrs on top she rides you, you don't ride it
You know when your windsurfing and your Proper going for it beam reach flying over chop.. a bullet hits and you just don't fancy lobbing it off the wind, you sheet out slightly and go up wind (therefore pussin out?) .. foiling it don't work like that and when your going quick you ain't bailing soon.. unless of course u get lobbed

couldn't agree more !!! I found going downwind helped reduce the speed but it takes a bit of nerves to bear away in a gust !

as for the envol, after talking to a few pro riders during the pwa event, the feedback I got was it is a really good foil (early take off and great stability) but it isn't designed for speed. The pros nicknamed it "blokefoil" ( bloque meaning stuck/jammed/blocked)

Sean That's interesting and confirmed my thoughts.. I did what so many have and binned my large rigs for more range and fun, I did my research and bought what I thought was an easy stable foil and it's just that,
i was the first at my spot to get one early last year and slowly many now have took the plunge.. to note all but one have bought 'alu' ones not seemingly justifying carbon and personally I think I have clocked it quicker and put that down to the foil as there good sailors, also those on the np alu take them out in winds I wouldn't so feel there more control higher wind capable of mine,
