Hi all, just wondering if anyone is using GA Air ride 7.7 no cam version, if yes what is the feedback ? I am looking for something between 7 and 8 that fits 460 mast

Good freeride sail for really lightwind but when the winds gets a bit stronger or the wind is not constant the 5 battens are not enough for this size.

I dont get it why they moved to no cam after they had 2cams in the 7,7 the year before.???

Probably because they came with new phantom air.

As for the airride : the 2cam cosmic is a much better option for foiling. Just pull 1cm less downhoul and its a top foiling sail.

Stabel in more wind, a lot faster and also easy to pump.

Is that a universal thing for foiling with race sails I cm less downhaul, or just something you figured out with cosmic?

It works good with GA cosmic freerace or NP v8 sails,

Also with other sails, more people use this less downhaul setting on foil.


For me it works perfect, no backhand pressure at all.
On normal downhaul setting for fin they have already a bit less loose leach like full racesails.
So with like 1cm or 2cm less downhaul the leach stays more closed and gives more stability on the foil. Also more power in lightwind. More easy to pump under 10kn wind also.


When the wind gets more i keep the - 1cm downhaul setting but move to the lower clew for the boom at the back of the sail.

Downhauling a fin sail a little less for foiling is a pretty common thing. Sailworks recommends it for their NX, Revo, Retro, and Hucker sails.

Other options include the Severne Foilglide - both 7.0 and 8.0 work on 460 masts. Also the Sailworks Flyer and Flyer FR 7.0. The FR takes SDM and the older Flyer RDM - its specs say 430 is preferred but if you're heavy it actually works better on 460 I think. The FR and the Severne 7.0 are both on the larger end of nominal "7.0" sails.

Thank you I already have cosmic 6.7. find it but heavy when up hauling. At the same time I understand your point - light construction sail without cambers is harder to control in irregular wind

I have a '18 Cosmic 6.7 and never found it particularly heavy. I rig/rigged my Cosmics (I used to have 7.7 also) fairly flat with medium downhaul. Whatever slight bottom end I gave up rigging like that (I didn't find that I lost much if anything), I found better stability and lower drag. I'm 63 kg fwiw. A full on foil sail will feel a little lighter to uphaul because of a shorter boom length however. My 7.7 was replaced by a 2 cam AirRide 7.7 which was a better foiling sail. I was not happy to see newer AirRides lose a batten and the cams, though. I'm in the camp that a bigger sail like that needs more stability as it's more likely to be pushed out of it's range as conditions change.

I can confirm that the 5-batten Flyer 7.0 (not the FR) works better on a 460 rdm than on a 430. I know of 4 gorge riders besides me who do this.

The older 4-batten Flyer 7.0 works well with a 430 rdm.

Thank you. FR looks like nice sail but comes from US so will be very expensive for me. Severne seems to be using rdm mast which I do not have. I was looking also at gunsails raise but it is 7 or 8 , nothing in between.
I am 85kg , I think something in the order of 7.5 would cover me for 8 to 14 knots

At your size, the difference between a 7.5 and 8.0 isn't that much and you should be able to use an 8 with no problem in that wind range. I'm 20 kg less and can use either an AirRide 7.7 or HGo 8.0 in that range. If you aren't already, use an adjustable outhaul.

I agree with 85 kg a 8.0 is fine between 8-14 especially if it has 2 cams.
Cams will give stability in upper range.
Must have adjustable out haul!
Having a big and a small wing also helps a lot with wind range. It's much easier to swap a wing than a sail.

I have a 8.0 (Ezzy Hydra, no cams) with 88 kg for similar range, works good.
As soon as it is 12-15 I rig a 6.7.
All wing dependent off course, the 8.0 with the small wing is fast in 13/14 knots

I am thinking about an upgrade to a 2 or 3 cam for the 8.0 for added stability. Looking at the Gun Raise (460 mast), NP V8 Flight, Phantom X, all in 8.0.
Phantom is the most freerace. V8 + Raise more freeride
