the best spot for downwinding where i foil here in SA allows nice long runs and the ability to make it strait back to where you launched, often with out having to make a tack. Swell is not bad either, and i 'm the only wind foiler with mabey 2 wing dingers and a couple of kite foilers. The rest are all windsurfing closer to shore so no traffic in the swell out the back which is brilliant.
Good point on the sails. A foil specific sail might also deform in 20kn +. I wonder if they make them for strong wind. Might not want a super low cut foot either, like the foil specific sails have, when downwind carving in swell. I'll have to find out.
Did you end up getting the Wizard 103?
Sounds like you have great conditions, where is your downwinding spot?
It'd be awesome to see video

After finding out that i'll be comfortable on a 105 Wizard in 20kts, i decided to buy Simons 105 which is currently in transit. Coming down in size from a 120 Naish Hover Crossover i figured the 103 might be a bit much to handle. Mabey too nimble and agile, and too hard to uphaul if needed. And after watching you guys in strong wind on 105 or the equivalent new 115's, i'm sure i'll be where i need to be.
Another question too. I 'm 80kg's. Do you have any idea what would be the maximum comfortable wind speed or range my 80ks's could handle on the 105. My smallest sail is a 3.3, and assume i have a choice of SS infinity 65 & 76 wings to use with SS Hoverglide. I'll actually be using a Naish Jet foil with 1050 & 1250 (cm2), wings, the two smallest wings in the jet range. These sizes are surf / crossover wings so obviously turn and handle well in swell and waves.
I cant compare our conditions with other states as i haven't travelled outside SA for foiling or windsurfing. But i can say that the wind we get isn't as consistent or strong as what you guys get over there, or consistently strong and consistent, but this summer's been the best in a long time. If i had the 105 and skills i now have at the start of our season (roughly nov), i would have been on the 105 and probably 4.5 and under more than on the 120 Hover Co.
The best spot for downwinding is probably Seacliff (combination reef sand bottom) SW, cross on, downwinding on port tack (natural footed). Swell size around 1- 3 foot in summer. Mabey bigger. It's hard to judge size up on the foil cause every thing looks smaller.
I'll post some video at some stage. Don't know what it will be like. Will need get a go pro or something when i'm working again & the funds allow it.
The link below is to where i launch at Seacliff or Kingston Park. They're right next to each other.

So much for a quick reply.
