Since I was on a JP 135 today (with a 2 cam 6.9 foil sail and IQ foil) ... He did well pushing that foil to those speeds. A lot of the gear from that period is still fun to ride even if not cutting edge.

I'm using a refurbed 135 as my "foil slalom" board.

Its great, mainly because i don't care about it enough to stop pushing it when its a bit dicey.

How did the glide foil compare to the i76?

I remember it getting super sketchy around 20mph but I really had no clue what I was doing when I was riding it. Looks like he is much more stable pushing that foil fast.

It'd be interesting to try a Neil Pryde "pinky" again and see how it compares to when I first started. I remember much sketchiness, but how much was the foil, and how much was me (being a beginner)?

I think, for science, you need to give it a go. I never sailed one but started on something from similar vintage.

+1 Mine was bought used with a few patches already with barely matching paint. I won't feel bad putting a ding in it. Similarly, why I've kept the IQ kit even though I have a better and newer foil. Some launches are rocky/sketchy and scratching the old wing doesn't make me wince as badly.

Only windfoiled the first gen Foil Glide (blue) large wing and it was okay at the time - you definitely felt the short fuse but it had a relatively large stab to steady things. My experiences on it and the i76 were too brief to tell you much more. Definitely, those generations of wings had a fairly sizeable drag wall (thick profiles) and, like you said, once you hit it, you knew it.

NP definitely improved their wings over time - just wish they'd done a longer windfoil fuse.
