I am looking for some input on how to cover 3.5m to 6m freeride windfoil with the fewest number of masts sails and booms. I currently have two Ezzy Hookipa masts a 430 and a 460 that I rarely use any more.


It is not fun to need a mast for every sail size but some how the industry doesn't get this....

I have destroyed 3 masts in 3 years but not my Ezzy's so that is what I will buy for a small mast.

My current goto set up is 5.7 Fringe and an old 4.5 Naish Nalu with a open head. Both can rig on a 430 and the same boom and this works from 10 to high 20's with the use of two front wings! This is awesome and easy and I can stomach one mast and I have a tiny boom for the smallest sail.

I got a lot of fun use out of a Maui sails 5.0, it needs repair and I broke both my 400 and 370 masts so it and a few other old used sails are sitting idle including my smallest a 4.0.

My thought is 5.7 or 6.0 then 5.0,4.2,3.5. The two smallest sails won't see much use so I am willing to comprise some performance there.

Perhaps a 340 top and bottom with a 370 top, but come on thats not ideal for me. Are there any 3.5ish that can rig on a 370? OR??? I could use some help streamlining this and I a not against buying used sail in good shape to get a open top.

Many small sails have variable mast head strap so 370 will be fine, my Gaastra Manic 3.7 specifies 370, only a few cm sticking out the top

I go old Ezzy Wave SE 3.3 (theoretically if it ever blew that hard) to 6.4 on a 400 with 30cm of extension. The 6.4 is a Naish Lift which is super short for its size.

Some older sails like my 2001 aerotech charge 3.5m rig on a 400 mast because of the adjustment in the head cap. Really not much mast poking out the top. Foiling out if my car this fall I bring:
Two masts-400 and 430
One boom 135-195cm
3 sails- 3.5, 4.2 and 5.2
Two front wings
One board
Can foil in winds from 8-35kts.
Some overlap between sails and wings. Could add a 6m and be more powered up in 8-12 but 10-15 is lit on my 5.2. Keeping in mind I'm only 150lbs.

I hardly ever use my 4.2. Either on my 3.5 or 5.2. I personally think with foiling you only need 1m gap in between sails at most. At your weight you will probably get close to my high end range on your 4.0 since I'm a lot lighter. I also wish sail manufactures would allow more sails to rig on one mast just look at the naish chopper sails. Basically every sail rigs on a 370

Funny that you posted this I am looking at buying a small mast 340 as I just bought a 3.4 naish force 4 I also have a 3.7 force 4 that calls for a 340 but rigs fine on a 370. i will probably get rid of the 3.7 and make the jump to 4.0 or 4.2. The cool thing about Ezzy is you can buy just a top or bottom and the 60% carbon can be mixed with the 90%. I think I will go with the 60% as that might be the only sail I use it with and it only weights a tiny bit more than the 90% also saves a lot of $$$. Also small modern wave sails really like the shorter masts as they are softer, with a longer mast your putting the sail on the stiffer part of the mast yes it will work but they will rig so much better on the right mast just my two cents.

Your kit is streamilined for that range! And I feel 1m gap is about right too.
I do not have many hours windfoiling in 30 + knots and the few I have had are on the 4.0. In the gusts I wanted less sail!
There is nothing on the market like the chopper right now that I am aware of. Currently Naish has only three sail sizes for the lift and all three rig on a different size mast. WTFO! I thought he wanted to make windfoiling accessible?

Thanks, the 370 fits a lot of sails so I will likely buy that mast size. I had not thought of mixing the carbon content of the sections to save $. I not necessarly trying to save money. Just trying to streamline a high quaility kit. I have been buying random used rigs and now I want to strategize my next moves.

I have love it too but I am not sure how much more I can get out of mine, its getting pretty delamed. So I am looking for what is next and trying to decide what sails to repair.
