Flyer - Foiling sail by Sailworks.
Imagine a twin-cam, 4 batten, stable lightweight sail optimised and purpose built for windfoiling !!
Throughout our winter the guys at Sailworks were busy testing their latest addition to their successful lineup of windsurfing sails the 2018 Flyer and now our stock has come in. Here's what you get: lower tension, low aspect rig, 2 cam system, narrow mast sleeve for RDM constant curve masts only, tighter leech, straight luff curve, deep profile and a joy to rig because there's no adjustable head cap to play with and the downhaul rope stow pocket is simplified for more added weight gain. Accessories bag includes cam shims and the batten key is in the usual location sewn onto the sail. There are four sizes 4.5, 5.2, 6.0 and 7.0 three colour combos Red/Yellow, Blue/Yellow and Blue/Orange and sail weights are 2.9, 3.2, 3.4 and 3.7kg.

I had my first run with the 6.0m Flyer today so thought I'd give my first impressions. For a bit of background I have been foiling for about 4 months on the Naish Hover package so am definetly not an expert at it. Up to now I have been using my wave sails which are good but wanted to try a cammed sail that would hold the shape in the sail hoping for better glide through the lulls on those really light days and more stability as the wind can get pretty gusty on the Gold Coast broadwater. Also wanted the light weight of the wavesails. Did a few searches on the internet and the Flyer sounded like it would be what I was after so contacted Chris at Windsurfsystems and ordered one.
The sail is easy to rig, feed the mast straight up the sleeve through the cams, bit of downhaul, bit of outhaul and all done. The wind was gusting up to about 10 or 12 knots and I would have normally been on the 5.0 or 4.7 so this was definetly the upper limit I wanted to use the sail in. On the water gave a little pump on the foil and it feels like it jumps up onto the foil quicker than with the wave sail. First thing I noticed was that with the wavesails I run the boom higher than normal but with the flyer I had to put it back to normal height. Could really feel the extra stability in the gusty conditions and also better up wind performance as you would expect with the cams. Had to adjust my technique for the Foiler and now feel I don't need to be as upright on the board as previously. Cam rotation when gybing is good. The wind started to drop off late in the session and I feel I am getting a more consistent glide in the lower wind range which is what I was after. Overall for the first impression the Flyer has given me everything I was looking for in a sail for foiling.

Thanks for the info Dave as I'm also looking at flyer for my naish hover. 6 metre seems a nice size can't really see the point in going to a 7 on the hover as I only use a older 5.5 ezzy now on the lighter days, actually l only ever use mine on days you wouldn't think about going windsurfing.

I'm the same only foil when not enough wind to windsurf. I'm about 74kg and couldn't ever see myself needing more than the 6.0. Don't think you would be disappointed with the Flyer.
