Safer on the lake.

Racing in 5-7 kts. It was as light as it looks.

Hey Paducah, were/are you there? I was, but I did not race because I could not imagine making my gear work in those light winds. Of course, it helped a lot that they were fit enough to pump like mad much of the time.

When you have a good technique the pumping isnt even that exhausting, its the training for the pumping technique you need to get going in those winds which is. With good technique you get more of the effect for less energy, If you're there its a breeze ;)

I see you have tried many foilboards between exocet, jp, fmx, etc. and in different sizes,
78, 85 ,82 etc. can you describe a favorite board by now? for freefoil- freerace?
big difference from 78 - 86 wide?

Was. Crossed the starting line a couple of times Friday and realized that I'd only be holding the big dogs back so retired each race. Saturday, I stayed in as somehow I blew a hole in the rail of my board the previous day. Seeing as even a 10 wasn't working for some really good guys, I don't think I missed much.

Most of the pumping was at the start and not bad by my low wind locale standards. Interestingly, maybe because it didn't matter, the top guys Saturday were jibing upwind to stay off the water.

Aside from my own shortcomings, it was a sight to behold and glad I was there to witness it. I'm looking forward to the Olympics. It will be an impressive site, to be sure.

On Saturday when the windfoil racing was finished, several of the guys came back upwind to the Center via boat. Not enough wind to pinch the one mile back upwind. Despite that, a couple of the guys made it all the way back on their own. Xavier even foiled over the shallow spots by flying high enough to avoid running aground. Now that's confidence (and skill) in 7 mph wind.

Ron K told me that he and Xavier went out on Sunday for some practice foiling. Ron barely downhauled his 10.0 and added a shim to angle his stab more down. That worked, apparently, for foiling in basically no wind at all. It would, he said, quickly become impossible if any wind came up.

What I don't understand is why they raced on the inside bay. In years past, we raced formula out on the Gulf. The inside bay has so many shallow spots that I was constantly running aground with a formula fin. It would be worse with a foil. Supposedly if you know where the deeper channels are on the inside, you can navigate the bay without problems. Obviously, I never learned where the deeper channels are.

The observed wind was stronger inside than out both days. Justin was especially pushing Saturday to race outside until he got the report on conditions.

I'll be filling and sanding wing scratches this week. Found some coquina rock.
