Hi everyone! A couple of months ago I asked seabreeze users if there was a way to extend your expensive carbon mast. Apparently, these are reserved for factory riders. So I put my design hat on and made my own! It's called FOILSLEEVE and bolts to your gofoil tuttle to extend it by up to 15cm. It's machined from solid aluminium and costs $250 AUD - the fraction of the cost of a new carbon mast if you need to go longer. Keen to know what you think

Check it out at www.foilsleeve.com

Looks like a winner! - unless I am missing something. I would imagine could easily make a deep tuttle insert to go straight into the box as well. Masts could just slot into this adapter as a permanent standard fitting - no need for the head of the mast as it is now anyway.

Hi Mark

Fantastic idea and excellent information video on your web site

Has it been tested for strength on a windsurfing foil setup
This would be a great way for me to get a bit more mast length on my current Neil Pryde Glide Wind setup

Cheers

Thanks for the feedback! Yes - FOILSLEEVE will slide onto any tuttle mast end, and fit straight into the tuttle box. Adaptor plates are used a lot in wing foiling, SUP etc. so we supply 2 versions with different connecting bolts.

Hey Tony - thanks! We've tested it on a lot of different rigs and set ups on the water and in the surf. FOILSLEEVE is strong as an ox... when you deliberately flex the foil, the mast flexes but the sleeve does not move. We're confident it will take the load. We could actually have taken more weight out, but we decided to leave some more meat on it.

Weight? Could you make it adapt from a tuttle to a plate mount while adding height?

Thanks for your reply Mark
So is this a correct ? - the foilsleeve female end accepts deep Tuttle and male end is clone of deep Tuttle so male end of foilsleeve could fit into the deep Tuttle on my JP hydrofoil board, giving me an end result of a longer mast

Do you notice any extra drag when the extender gets immersed?

Yup - all tuttle boxes are 16mm wide as a universal standard. the male end of FOILSLEEVE is 15.85 and will fit. We offer 2 versions - one for use with adaptor plates (not for you) and one with bolts (perfect for you) that fit direct through your board and the sleeve and into your foil. It will fit ;-)

Hi Ian - it's not noticable. It does create a bit of drag... logic says it must.... we could have closed the windows in the design but we chose to cut all the holes in it to get min weight. All the guys using them for wing foiling right now don't notice them at all.

Hi - it weighs 600g. I personally use FOILSLEEVE with a plate mount. Check out this video:

Very nice idea! I have a Moses 790/85 and this can be very handy to have around if I ever venture in "big" seas. And closing the windows should not be that hard with a bit of tinkering! (from duct tape to foam and carbon )

Hi Duzzi - we are pumped with the response to FOILSLEEVE! We sold out of the entire first batch in 5 days. It's perfect for what you describe: need more mast? Just whack it on, and go. MUCH faster than changing wings. And trust me, you don't need to close the windows ;-)
