There has ben some talk about 100-105 long masts, and vendors removing them from their selection because of being too soft or in less demand.

Therefore, I am curious about your experiences with the Sabfoil M103K mast. I am happy to hear about experiences with similar length masts from other vendors as well. I am initially thinking of this for freeride Windfoiling, to have something which lets me pass over chop without following the contour of the smaller chop and boat wake, currently using a 85 cm Moses/Sabfoil mast for freeride. I weigh 73kg without suit and do not expect to be very aggressive on the water with jumping and more extreme manouvers.

On the other hand, the Slingshot Phantasm 125 cm mast is very popular on the Columbia River.

A actually pulled the trigger on buying foiling equipment when I saw the construction of the SS 103W single piece mast. There are manufacturing implications (Mold cost etc). of a multi piece mast and base, VS single piece construction. You either have a single piece mast with a Tuttle connection (no tracks for adjustment), or a multi piece mast/base to be used with tracks. The single piece SS mast just made more sense to me from an engineering perspective. Not to suggest the others don't work great (see all the video's of guys on Sabfoil etc).
Just my personal preference. I also paid a huge upcharge for the wide body mast, but it is solid. I had to wait for the phantasm mast, so used the hoverglide aluminum in the interim. Broke the pedestal base to mast rear bolt. The Phantasm solid carbon mast is very stiff in comparison. The massive pedestal face connection to the board plus the large radius fillet from the base to mast combined with the variable chord length sold me. Again these are just my "feelings" and not supported by torsional test data .

I went from a 90cm to 105cm as I was breaching when going over the back of waves in the ocean.
It was a big improvement as you stop worrying about breaches, stay hooked in & go harder ??
Stiffness is not an issue as mine are both aluminium but one noticeable thing is the longer mast carved slower but still not too bad??

Yes. SS seems to be a strong supporter of longer masts for freeride, and their wide masts do look and give me a gut feeling of being stronger.But if Kraken is stiff and strong enough for Balz Muller on a 93 cm, I would expect it to be strong enough for me on a 103 cm.

For Sabfoil it looks like they have taken away the approval of windfoiling for their current 103 mast (which they name 106). I was hoping that with my weight and riding style, this would not be a problem.

I would survive with somewhat slower carving. Do you feel much weight addition with the 105?

Hi John and Segler,
The SS Phantasm wide carbon masts looks robust. I am not sure whether SS is the exception, or whether Sabfoil is the exception with their lack of support for long freeride windfoiling masts. I would be hesitant to using the SS Phantasm with their adapter for tuttle boards on such a long mast.

I thought that I had seen a NP foil manager/designer mentioning that they did not see the need for 105 masts (maybe limited to freeride), and that the market found 95 to be stiffer and more balanced / easier to use - but I could not find that article now.

It seems like several people in this community appreciate longer than 95 cm masts for Windfoiling - maybe Sabfoil is in need of a clear message.

I always get a chuckle when people talk about how they can feel the different stiffnesses of the masts.

For free riding longer is better especially if you're in big swell or choppy conditions the ocean.

I still ride the old school 111 Moses.
My biggest problem is breaking bolts on the front wings in the big windy days.

I'm a big guy over 200 lbs.

I know my style is very unique so my results will be different.

I'm going to upgrade this year but I'm still on the fence do I go with the slingshot.

That mast deserves a comeback! Is this the standard fuse with M6 screws or HS fuse with M8 screws?

Tanks for sharing experiences and advice. Pulled the trigger on a 103 collecting dust in a shop.

That particular fuselage is the m6 it's a slingshot 730 front wing on it.
I purchased this mast for $200 this past summer so I've been able to extend the working life of my older Moses foils.
Like I stated before I'll be upgrading this summer just haven't decided which one yet.
