Hey all,
I keep stripping the treads on the 6mm brass insert that anhors the plug and play tab into the head of the Horue Vini i ride. The first one was fine for 4 years so when it broke I blamed it on corrosion. I replaced it with a 6mm brass insert from Chinook. I just stripped that at the wake park today. All this is happening in the air, when the threads go there is a loud sound then I start hearing the sound of the foil moving in the tuttle box. I have to wonder if I am doing something wrong? I am 100kg so things are loaded, but why did the first one last years and the second blow up right away?

Was the first stainless or brass?
was the first metric and maybe the chinook imperial?
is the thread on the screw ok?
Is your screw making it all the way through the nut and using all the thread?
Are you stronger than you look and over tightening it?

Phil at Horue told me his inserts are the same as Chinook like I used as a replacement. The screw looks okay. The screw is long enough.
My foil fits into the box just a hair loose, I think what is happening is that the tab is taking all the vertical load and the box sees none. I am going to try bolting the foil into the board with the tab bolt eased and pull the foil into the board snugly. Then tighten the tab bolt tight. This way I know the foil is snug in the T box but not over tight. Then the tab will keep it from wedging in deeper under sailing loads. Hopefully by sharing the load the insert won't strip. Standby..

Short term solution has been a plain steel insert from Lowes. I looked at the brass chinook inserts and the threads were barely there. I am going to get some made up in S.S. if I can't find one.

Be careful. There is a reason they are not usually stainless & it's not cost... Actually stainless is cheaper than brass. If youv'e ever had a an old mast base with a stainless slider seize up you know why.
