As summer turns to fall and the water gets cold I make the transition to wearing booties regularly. The probem I am having is that even with expanding my straps on IQ board fully I still can't get my foot stuffed in enough to control the board and foil at speed. In summer I usually ride with them fairly loose so I can get my foot in deep but still mobile enough to shift my heel fore and aft and still get out of them after a breach. With wetsuit booties I can barely get my toes in.
Any brilliant ideas to get me another cm or two for a little breathing room?

My problem is that the straps of my Severne Alien are much too big. Even at the smallest possible position my feet are too loose, with winter shoes. I have EU42 size

How cold? With straps some booties thick ones are dangerous too much rubber on the top and sides so your foot may get stuck in a crash. I wear the Oniell Ninja 3mm no matter how cold, no rubber on top or sides just the bottom and split toe for a snug fit but to each their own.

I will sail until ice forms so its very cold water. I tried my 3 mm boots on the weekend and had to wiggle and force it into the strap. Even with that not at a comfortable depth. You raised an interesting point about the construction. All of my boots are rubber on the sides and it's quite sticky against the foot strap material. The Drake foot straps on the IQ board are almost a suede-like material. May be a regular strap would be more slippery.

Severne space holes at 160mm whereas most boards are 150mm, and you can use the plastic insert the other way around to mske them wider or narrower
Patrik straps do the same with more holes instead of an insert
Experimenting with something other than the Drake strap should help

The slingshot straps are the biggest I have found so far
