If you have the flexibility to select a front wing that is bigger than stock, don't hesitate.

Up in Seattle, the guys who have been windfoiling with Slingshot have been getting the Infinity 76 (1534 cm2) and 84 (2066 cm2) wings, and have not looked back.

My own experience has been similar. I weigh 90 kg and foil mostly in 12-20 kt winds with 5.0, 5.6, 6.4, and 7.0 sails. When I started out with a 779 cm2 wing, it was either lifting too much or not enough for the board speed I was comfortable at. The control window was narrow. I porpoised all over the place. I think the solution would be to just go faster, but that did not seem to work, either, at least for me.

When I got a 1120 cm2 wing for that foil, everything changed dramatically. It was easy to balance the pitch and just ride it for long flights under total control. The board speed was same as with the smaller wing, but the control was MASSIVELY BETTER. Even using a 5.0 with this wing under a formula board with 20 kt wind worked surprisingly fine.

So, I have 779 cm2 (AFS-2), 940 cm2 (LP), 1000 cm2 (hybrid), and 1120 cm2 (AFS-2). i will go back to the 779 cm2 when I get better and can maintain higher speed.

The point here is don't hesitate to try bigger front wings, and pay attention to wing area. Those Infinity wings are HUGE, and they lift nicely at slow speeds. When you bear down on them by moving your weight further forward to reduce the angle of attack, they go plenty fast.

The Seattle guys are also saying that there is nothing is good as a huge wing underfoot to learn to jibe without losing flight.

You will notice that most of the these big wings are made for SUP and surf foiling. However, on the modular foil designs with interchangeable parts, you can attach them to windfoils just fine. Slingshot is a great example.

Im in a similar situation as Indecent Exposure... I started with GT which has the 800cm2 front wing, 330 Stab and 75cm fuselage however after trying the 115cm fuselage and 255cm stab the low end performance was easily improved and definitely added these new parts. Then after trying the 1000cm Race wing which is roughly 1005mm wide the lowend performance was taken to a whole new level.

Starboard has the new Supercruiser surf wing which has the 1700cm2 front wing and im guessing one could use the 2000cm2 Ocean Surf front wing as well. Will be interesting to see if the Supercruiser will be able to get going as early as the Race1000cm2 wing which is very impressive. A totally different riding style compared to the race setup.. definitely more surfy.

What size sails were they using?

Segler, what kinds of boards are these guys in seattle using with those infinity 76 and 84 wings?

Are wider boards (ie formula boards) better to use with these bigger wings.
Has anyone tested the real light wind limites with the infinity 84 wing. Say... 6 knots, 10m sail + formula or any wide board 80+cm in the straps??

The guys in Seattle are using the 84 and 76 with the RF91 and with the Slingshot boards. Sail sizes are typically 7.0 to 8.2 in really light winds.

Last summer one time on Lake Washington I was out on my formula board, 7.0, and AFS-2 with the F700 (779 cm2) front wing. A friend was on his RF91, Infinity 84, and the same 7.0 sail. The wind was really light. We both weigh 200 lb He was flying more easily than I was, and he had no trouble getting good speed that matched mine when we were both flying.

If I had had the F800 (1120 cm2) wing then I would have had much better flying.

I think the sails are 9m., though quite deceiving to the eye as the only Gun Sail looks larger possibly as its shape looks more low aspect compated to the Severne Glide v2.

I've only used the Infinity 84 one time so far, so my impressions still have to be confirmed.
I was out on a lightwind day with my Goya Mark 7.2 when the wind suffered to lift me on my MFC Freeride foil.
This MFC foil lifts early, about the same like my other Windfoil, an Aeromod with LW wing.
So I decided to give my Supfoil a try, mounting it in the additional US-boxes I have in my board besides the Tuttlebox in the back. The mast was about 20cm more forward than when mounted in the Tuttle.
In this position I could pump the foil Kai Lenny style, combined with a synchronised sail pumping the foil got going extremely early. Without pumping I also got the impression that the Infinity 84 delivered more lift than the MFC .
I guess finetunig this technique could really push the lightwind limits. But it really is a workout.
The Mark 7.2 felt a little stiff and bulky for this, but a big and light wave or freestyle sail could really help with this technique, next time I'll try my 3-batten Goya Fringe 6.3, this sail should be perfect for that.

I've been looking at the slingshot foils too. It looks like they have a lot of different wings to choose from and they work on the same fuse and you can adjust mast placement.
The reason I'm not so tempted by pryde is you have to change the fuse depending on what wing your using. You know what I mean...

On the first day with the 142 Hover I pushed the petal down as I had the front straps on "Normally I go strapless" and it held at around 17/18 kts just fine. Where this foil excels is when you get upright and on top of it, much like a SUP foil stance. What a joy. The second day on the JP 7' Foil I went straight into an upright SUP stance and got my WWF on with a 5.3 again and no straps. It free-sailed like butter. After I got comfortable on her, I really let the power off, barely holding the boom with the back hand and went into pump and glide mode on some down wind shin to knee high chop. She flew just fine. She also can bank quite the turn. I was impressed how long she stayed on foil when I let all the power off. Obviously I haven't pushed it yet....but I was impressed. Actually...I think I fell in love with her. ;) The profile and rake is very much in the spirt of the GO foils....whereas the XL has a lot of flat in the center and then the aggressive wing tips.

I hope this makes sense, but on the XL you can coax her up with a modified windsurfing pump. That wasn't working on the XXL. She really like more of SUP pump. Using the larger rear wing that came with the XL. Had the tilt rear adjustment in neutral.

Using the larger rear wing that comes standard with the XL. I think you just need to call your local dealer as I also noticed it's not up on any of the websites yet. The West Coast USA dealers are listing at $685 US for just the wing. My BFF discount is not for posting. ;)

I only got into this 3 months ago....and I went straight for the Naish XL as I knew I was leaning for a more freestyle approach. I don't have any experience on the WS-1. I've tried some other brands and sizes. Had Naish not stepped up to the plate with the XXL I was about ready to pull the trigger on the GO 200 or the Slingshot 84.

I've been following these posts and the downwinding posts with interest and decided to go for a (much) bigger foil for light winds. Bought the NP Glide Large foil after considering the SS Infinity 84cm very seriously. It came down to the $1000 or difference between upgrading the NP vs. starting again with SS. Spoke with Reg at Windsurfing WA and he was very enthusiastic about the NP wing, although there's not a lot of info on SB to validate (hopefully I can contribute).

Arrived today, but absolutely zero wind to get out and try it
The top pic shows relative alignment with the equivalent mast location. Trailing edge of front wings similar, but centre of lift significantly forward. Presumably a mastbase position change will be required
The profile of the wings (bottom right) certainly highlights the difference between the designs (cf 2018 NP ALU).
The trailing edge of the rear wing is about 10-15mm further aft, so the overall length is quite different.
Some chance of some 10-15kts in the next couple of days, so here's hoping.

Had another day of 7-22, very gusty up and down with some knee high chop in the channel. Another...Oh this is too much fun day on the JP 7' Foil w/ no straps and the Naish XXL. Had the Ezzy Elite 5.3 flat and floppy due to the gusts, almost rigged a 4.5 but there was def. some holes. This time I spent 15-20 min's working my way upwind. Then I enjoyed some carves and broad reach glides with almost no sail power and a finger tip grip.

After awhile I figured I'd take the leap of faith and head straight down wind holding just the mast with one hand and commit to riding the micro chop SUP style. I still have a smile on my face. I say leap of faith because my surfing brain tells me there's no way you can ride knee high chop. But obviously I stand corrected. Interesting that even with the sail just hanging out there one handed luffing, I think it's still creating some lift. Also experimented with holding the boom just shy of the mast, both positions seem to work.

My next session I'm going to try and work out someone picking my arse up way down wind.

For riding at home i use a dedicated Aeromod windfoil, but i also have a SS Infintiy 84 supfoil for my board.

Looking good! The glide Should be way better balanced than the new pinky (which is now blue aswell haha)! I'd try it as you would with the old alu though (125 on the JP135), since you'd also be going less fast ;)

Middle of the boxes. I've been meaning to play around with the that but so far on my first 3 sessions it seems to be a great spot. I was looking at the post where guys are shimming their foils on the JP with certain foils but the Naish was plug in play.

Actually...I think I fell in love with her. ;) The profile and rake is very much in the spirt of the GO foils....whereas the XL has a lot of flat in the center and then the aggressive wing tips.

I hope this makes sense, but on the XL you can coax her up with a modified windsurfing pump. That wasn't working on the XXL. She really like more of SUP pump. The XXL comes up on foil smoothly and the XL jumps up quickly. The XXL almost glides down coming off foil and the XL can sometimes come down quickly. I love the XL too, but for what I'm trying to do, the XXL really shines. Yesterday was also the first day on my JP 7' Foil Board. I fell in love with her as well. I'm not sponsored and I've only been foiling a few months, but that board was made for this. Great job Naish on the long overdue XXL. So when's the XXXL coming out? ;)

In a few days we'll have some sides-shore wind and small swell and I'm frothing at the bit.

Shlogger... thanks a million. I've been wrestling with my Naish XL with my Naish Hover 122 for a while now... I will now try and source an XXL foil in the hope than I can finally nail this bloody foiling!Keep up the posts!
