my guess is, depending on body weight, that the 125l Board is the better choice for light-wind. We are around 20 guys in our club who are foiling and all the experienced foilers with good technique are able to get up and flying on smaller wings/sails. One guy is using a freestyle-board to foil and is definitely missing the board-width to load the foil for up-wind sailing. With my 95kg dry-weight I would go with the 125l Wizzard and infinity 76
I am referring to the slingshot freestyle foilboard, it is certainly less wide in the tail than the wizard. I guess I am wondering about if board width or wing size is the more crucial factor for early foiling.
Also is there a point where more wing is no better than skillful pumping?
I'd take the bigger board combo personally. I took my 84cm Infinity down from an 8'2" Starboard Go board at 122L to a Wizard 125L and find that it's slower getting going due to the board shape. That said, once up on foil it's looser to steer, pump and carve.
Interesting question! I never foil, I asked the same question and also Add in the equation the Naish SUP/Wind/ Foil...crossover hover.A lot told me I would be better with 105 and not the 125 Wizard at my weight (75kg). Would struggle a bit more at the beg, but long run I would get going into 10-15 kts with a 5.3, if I can pump the foil.... From those who answered, the freestyle(slingshot) wasn't the board to have in very light wind... But I have 0 experience
