Had some adj. harness lines when I started windsurfing, figured out length I needed and then got fixed 32" lines. What I did not like about them is that when all the way out one side was really floppy so line did not hang evenly. Traded them in at my local shop.

Now I need adj. harness lines for windfoiling, and I want to be able to adjust them in-flight, any favorites?

Race adjustables with cleats are the only way to go - as everyone noted above. I have tried everything else and they all slip sooner or later during a session (usually sooner). But, hey, thats how I figured out that 32 was the right length for me as that was the maximum length of my adjustables and I just had to get used to it. Maybe if you are lightweight and/or only use small sails for lightwind foiling then you could get away with it.

To stop race lines dinging your board when uphauling (never happened to me), some of them (old chinook at least) come with short tubes of elasticated material that you slide over the cleat. Would be easy to DIY something like that too.

I checked this on my board beforehand and with the height of my boom the metal V cleat can never touch the board (Naish Micro board).
Metal V cleat for me, can adjust easily even when under load.

Okay, thanks for all the advice and options, like those SB V-cleats will keep them in mind. Ended up getting Ion Varios, best option at local shop North Beach Windsurfing and was able to test a bunch, and the Ions attach without having to undo the adjustable outhaul lines and remove boom tail! Strap to decrease line length has velcro on the back to stick to covered part of harness line to keep it from blowing around. And they have plastic backing on the adjustable side to keep that side stiff so line does not flop on that side, stick out just like regular lines. And reasonable at $34 US.

Will keep an eye out for that when I go out, the buckle on the Ions is plastic trimmed, but it is hard plastic. Normally I do an easy beach start, so not an issue there, but do uphaul sometimes.

Yeah, have some neoprene, easy to make a sleeve for the buckle.

I was thinking of one like that, but have not seen it yet. Will see how the Ion Vario works out, the velcro on the pull strap should keep the adjustment from slipping.

The more I think about the SB adj. harness lines the more they seem really well designed especially that they have a stiff backer on the adjustable side AND no friction when the line is out of the V-cleat. I am going to test out the Ion Vario lines which may be fine though when testing dry it does take effort to reduce the line length since you have to pull the strap through the spring loaded buckle, maybe when on the water and wet they will be easier to adjust. Need a second set for my other boom so put my name on a SB adj. line set when they come in stock at my local shop in January 2021.

I just put a finger through the loop on the end of the strap and pull to tighten. That works fine on the foil without having to press the buckle as well. These lines work really well and the only issue I've had is the buckles jamming up with salt/corrosion when they haven't been adjusted for a while. It was fairly easy to free them up though with some WD40 and a bit of wiggling.

I don't need adjustable harness lines but I would like to find some that are much easier to move up and down the boom. I usually find them pretty difficult to slide so end up undoing the velcro. After about 10 times doing that the velcro seems to rip off.

I find that I am moving them up and down a bit when i go from my big wave sail 5.3 to my smallest 3.3.

I found pulling the strap to take too much tension for me, plus you may wear the strap out rubbing it on the spiked cross bar. By releasing the buckle no wear on strap and it is pretty much effortless to reduce line length.

I found the Chinook adjustable harness lines to be very easy for adjustment and much more efficient than most of other brands. Point 7 also has adjustable with quick release system which is very efficient for releasing in case stuck under the sail.

I find I need to straighten them out before trying to slide on boom. They tend to cock to one side and if you leave them that way they will grab the boom when trying to slide. Straightening them out also gets them out of the depression they make in the boom grip/EVA foam (or whatever it is).

Yeah, I looked at the Chinook but I hook in/out/in while in flight so wanted a line that was rigid and stayed in place. Point 7 look similar to Ion Vario but with the added quick release on the left (in the pic). Thanks

Yeah it seems that even if the velcro is loose, that the tension on the lines pulls everything tight

I looked at the the Chinook version of the Ion Race lines at my local shop (both use a Clamcleat), but the cleat side of the line did not hang evenly with the other side. I want a line that I can easily hook into and out of in-flight. The Ion Vario hang evenly and will stay at a forward angle of 30 degrees. The SB adjustable lines look like they will do the same. With my new AFS F700 wing the line pressure is much lighter compared to the F800, will be getting the SB lines in January and see how they work and may then keep on my larger 200-260 boom which I only use with the F800 wing, or get a second set if they are better than the Ion Vario lines.

But I think the issue with the buckle style adj. lines slipping may be due to users pulling on the strap "without" pressing the buckle release, that will wear the strap out since it rubs on the spiked cross bar. The strap on the Ion Vario is ridged so it locks in at 1/8" intervals, but those ridges can be worn off.

I have 2 pairs of the Point 7 Quickrelease and Yes: it is really a quickrelease. It releases also when you dont want to. The thin "neoprensocket cover around the yellow part where you do the traccion is too short and therefore its very easy to do an accidential releases when you are sailing. The idea is very good and it is easy to handle, but wait buying that quicklelease system untill its better.

Moved on to Sailworks Quicktune lines, very nice, they swing and I like that, SS V jam cleat, wrote a review for them.

Who stocks the cleat style stiff lines? I think I need to upgrade to either the starboard or ion race lines as my ion cleat pair slip too much... especially after being in the garage stuck with dry salt for too long...

I'm a "set it and forget it" rider. I adjust, then cut off the handle once I find the right balance. One problem I always have is them rotating on the boom no matter how tight I get the velcro. Half the time when I tack, or uphaul, the lines are pointed into the sail. I like the sound of lines that "swing", and let gravity do the work of hanging down, where I can "swing" them into the hook.
