Been trying a few of these, anyone got any tips on landing them? Seems like a good entry level first air trick cause the rotation is fairly safe and even if it goes a bit pearshaped the gear tends to fly away from you.



Managed to get a dodgy mobile phone video of a bad attempt, dead flat water so didn't get very vertical or much height, and touched down just before liftoff so lost some speed as well. I think my rotation is a bit off maybe cause takeoff is flat? Not sure if the classic "floaty" backloop is possible. Never landed a clean backloop on a slappa either so I'm trying to learn these for the first time.

Definitely have had much better, and also much sketcher attempts with a few ramps around.

From looking at the video I try the following. Try a more upright stance when launching, launch sailing a bit further into the wind and slide the back hand further towards the clew... although the last point only comes into play once you are landing. With limited height you want to ideally limit the rotation to about 45 to 60 degrees. That's between take off and landing.

Personally I haven't managed this on flat water yet but I have seen people do it off micro chop with a normal windsurf board.

Good point launching further into the wind, I can see that even if I managed to get more rotation in this, I would end up landing dead downwind which may be pretty hard to stick. And hand back on clew definitely would help once I've got a bit more rotation.

On the more upright takeoff, I felt like I'm actually too upright? I.e. if you look at me right after takeoff basically my legs are straight. Looking at a classic big wave backloop, you see the guys generally have the back leg bent, and the sail raked further. Regardless of the height I seem to keep landing on my side/face, with my body hitting the water about same time as the board, and not really on top of the board enough... Just not really sure what I'm doing wrong as I can't see to get that last little bit of rotation. .

Bend your knees more.

I think the easiest and safest aerial trick is the downwind 360 into switch Kono. There the foil stays pointed down and away from you, and you can work up to it by doing 360s where you breach 1/2 to 2/3rds of the way round.

Backloop full rotations I've only seen done succesfully by Balz M?ller, or in waves. Flat water probably not gonna happen.

Get good speed, I enter most backloops 45-55 kph, and turn into wind during the jump, also, spot your landing!

0:26 and 0:42 ... only small chop. I think he would probably be able to do it with no waves. If you look as his technique step by step you can see it's a step take off followed by an almost horizontal rotation. He also jumps off straight into the wind and lands dead downwind.

here is another one... when you look at it up close he seems to get extra rotation by not just spotting the landing but throwing his head over the shoulder.

Righht on Bro!!!!! For what it is worth, in watching the Horue vids it took Phil a while before he landed a backie. I have not intentionally jumped yet. But many of my most epic crashes are the begining of a back loop or kono! I guess it is time for me to rip the band aid off and try and send it! Not sure the gear is up to my bad landings though.

back looping within 2 months, in 2017.

Good vids, watched them at 0.25x speed, by the looks really raking the sail back on takeoff as well is helping their rotation.

I have this thing called a "head" and a "spinal column" that I really care about, not about to find more potential ways to damage either!

Thinking of trying these. I've done downwind 360s where you pivot the last part around with backwind pop from the sail, just need to add the jumping part-how hard could it be

Like most I'm really nervous on jumping a foil and having something break. Think it could work using the small infinity 65 wing(850cm2)? but never tryed 360s on it yet only the bigger infinity 76.
