Why can't you put a wing on the mast?
At slow speeds the mastwing will help with lift.
At higher speed the mastwing will be in the air so less drag (you might even get air lift).
First, the adjustment assumes the board is pointed in the right direction in the first place. How does it know if you've hit a piece of chop, you actually want the board to go up or something else?
Putting a wing on the mast doesn't work because it's behind the CoG. As air is 700 times less dense than water, the wing out of water isn't going to be doing much at 15 mph.

If you want a beginner's foil, get a big wing and not too high mast.
