One for the tech peeps. I had a great big crash yesterday and was wondering if anyone has analysed their tracks to see if they can calculate their actual crash or catapult speed. 10hz devices could prob give 20 readings or points during the said 2sec PB splash. How long does a catapult last? How far does one travel in the 2sec. im gonna start all over again cos I think that I might be chicken on my next FlyNoDie sesh.

Maybe I need to get a video of my crash to get some action LOL

Speed would be about the speed you are traveling before crashing, a catapult is more of a sudden breaking. It lasts about 1 second from my experience, even if the time seems to stop and your entire life flashes before your eyes. And the distance you travel is from the straps to the nose of your board + 1 meter if you hang on the boom

My two best speeds on foil were both achieved foiling out and crashing

I use an Apple Watch 6, which I think is a 1Hz update frequency by studying the data, and it has never measured my catapults as my highest speed. So that's something I guess?

My gopro and an older samsung watch would both glitch similarly during crashing, probably mostly because of their filtering.

However they also would glitch the same way due to water screwing up the signal. I could do the gps/gopro overlay and that's how I realized it. The older gopros even would have bad data if you started recording with them wet.

You'd probably need something really accurate at small distances to capture what was happening right before the water, recording at a high frequency.

Much less drag with the foils out of the water!
