After going under the knife 4 times (twice each ear ) and starting to notice the re-occurrence again
of the dreaded exostosis (surfers ear ) i am in the market for a wetsuit hood for winter.
Any recommendations/advice from the "Mexicans", (southern states, Tassie included ,not like on the maps !!),
for a hood .
I am hoping i can get one with enough stretch so i can pull it down over my neck if need be if i get a bit toasty!
Was looking at the o'neill hyperfreak 1.5mm , about $50... but have a head like a pumkin,
(was a very successful model for a motorcycle mag ..did all the full face helmet shoots ) and surfstich were sold out of XL ..
Any suggestions??

Cheers !

My one is attached to the wettie - you easily slide it on and off PH. Not sure you need a 5/4 up your way though

I use a gath helmet. I hated my hood as it trapped water inside.

The visor sucked and I removed it but I didn't have the retractable one. I removed the peak too, but kept the ear protection as I have bony bits growing nicely. With ear bit open the water drains, but the wind is broken and doesn't get in anywhere near as much.

This is mine:

Just use blu-tak. not only does it protect your ears, it has the added benefit of not being able to hear anyone calling inside of you, meaning plausible deniability as you burn burn burn....

I had my first surf last night using these

surfears.com/

Having never used plugs it was a weird experience. But after continually having blocked ears and a few infections I thought it was time. At the beginning I felt a bit off balance due to the weird sound. I could hear everything but it felt off. Reminded me of how a gopro captures the water sound loudly when paddling etc.

I kept chopping and changing with them in/out throughout the session etc. I will give it another session before I decide on them though.

They could be an option for you.

Any updates from those using hoods? For anyone in WA what style are you using?

Last couple of surfs I have been wearing my long sleave Radiator and I even wore long legged Skins under my 3/2! Surely a hood would be more efficient?

Interested to hear.

I use these and they are frigging awesome...a close second is blu tac

If you really need a hood I recommend the Oniell au.oneill.com/shop/wetsuits/booties-hoods-gloves/hoods/2mm-sport-cap-002-black.html

My mate swears by his hood vest combo thingy but I can't stand having anything else around my neck

Yep, that's the one I use... It's great, and no water in the eyes after duck diving
