BASE boards are made either here in Australia or in the USA. They are cheaper in the USA as blanks are cheaper, glass, resin etc, labour etc etc. Boards there are also cheaper in general for this reason. They also have a US sales office owned and operated by BASE.
Manufacturers here in Australia used to export but the USD crash has made that impossible, now they manufacture on shore under licence in the US. The freight rates were prohibitive from this far away land.
How would I know? I used to work there and the owners / shapers are still some of
my friends.
P.S Freight for a surfboard from the US will cost you about $1000. Go for it!
