Currently on a mission to buy myself a new board and have been doing some research on a certain aussie website for some well known aussie brands. My question is why the boards are worth $800 aus dollars but by changing the currency button they become $595 US dollars ($560 Aus dollars) might be something im missing but seems very strange, are we getting slugged for having a better economy???

It's called being fisted, but it's for the greater good. So bend over and take it with a smile.

Or maybe we just get fisted in Oz. One Australian site & one American site. Same Thai pop out and judging by Dave's comment I daresay this is who he was referring to 'cos if you click on the US flag it comes up at $595.
Same as I can order Penfolds Grange online from a UK retailer for $350aud and our wholesale price here is well over $400aud.

Wow, but how much freight would you pay from the US?

See, once again you are greatly misguided.

BASE boards are made either here in Australia or in the USA. They are cheaper in the USA as blanks are cheaper, glass, resin etc, labour etc etc. Boards there are also cheaper in general for this reason. They also have a US sales office owned and operated by BASE.

Manufacturers here in Australia used to export but the USD crash has made that impossible, now they manufacture on shore under licence in the US. The freight rates were prohibitive from this far away land.

How would I know? I used to work there and the owners / shapers are still some of
my friends.

P.S Freight for a surfboard from the US will cost you about $1000. Go for it!

$1000 to freight a surfboard? Geez, do they put a premium on 'fragile' goods? Just curious as I bought 5 mud terrain tyres from the US and they were flown over in 5 days and delivered to my door. Freight cost $250, that was through fedex.

Who from ffdisco2? I need tyres, was looking at one seller but he quoted me $400 freight for 4 A/Ts, which made it not such a good deal.
