yeah glassy im workin away atm, I been going through the pics to suss out final decisions (still )

Ive definatly narrowed it down to one of the better Nikkons, I think from what my info ive gathere the cannons might be better if I spend 5-6 grand but that's well out of my budget and leaves me with no cash for a lens. You will definatley get more bang for ya buck with nikkon, and Ive just learnt how to use it sort off.
The lens issue is extremely complex and although I want a nikkon camera Im going to go into the shop and have a visual look at what the options are. The camera I will buy from a shop for sure just cause Im a bit paranoid about quality issues buying on line. The lens I haven't decided yet.

I need to sort it out Im going to the Maldives in May and Id like to have it before than, still looking at spending2-3 grand total, but its very tempting to wait just before going cause I may have another5-800 to put towards it. I realized theres a huge difference between a 1500 dollar camera and 1500 dollar lens to maybe a 2000 camera and a 1500 dollar lens.

More research will be done for me, its a huge cost and I may be dilly dallying but I want to make sure I get exactly what I need/want.

Cheers for all the info too glassy when I was asking heaps a questions its definatly steered me closer to what I think I will get

These are great bang for buck...I have the older model, FZ150 that I'm still using...long battery life, quality pics/vids, great autofocus even while zooming.

Here's my 2cents spend the money on the lens. I have a canon 10D and with a good lens I could get poster prints out of it. I started with the sigma EX series lens 70-200 f2.8 $1200 then went to the canon L series $2200. If the pics are for you then start off with the sigma and see how you if you making living the go the pro lens.

At the end of the day how many people print their photos, they just view them on the TV or computer then all you need is 1800x1200@72pdi I think thats about 1.5Mb to 2.5Mb. So a camera that gives you a 25Mb file is a bit off over kill unless you do a lot of photoshopping. All the fancy stuff on a camera these means nothing if you shoot manual as long as the exposure is right and it's in focus then that's all you need. Otherwise go the point and shoot that has a housing.

Sorry, mabye that's 3 cents.

I love that sequence Mick. Been surfing a spot not too far from there the last few days Here are a few from the last 6 weeks over here. Razz - most shot with a Canon 60D and second hand L-series lens 70-200mm (paid AUD $650 for it). I have just shared low res pics here as internet is that good over here in Indo. As Karlyo said the glory is all in the lens. Spend less on the camera and more on the lens. If you go for an APSC sensor you get a 1.6 times hit up on yr lens - so effectively a 200mm becomes a 320. Means you get way more bang for your buck. A big camera with lots of lenses is a hassle to carry around - be warned. It often annoys the hell out of me - but can be very re-warding. Have a look at those Lumix - with the 1200 digital zoom. I had a play with one the other week - very good quality shots. Do not expect to use the lens that far out though. But at 500mm you are still getting some great shots. Way less expense and only one thing to carry. If I was doing my time again I would seriously consider one of those. For now it feels like I am too far in to pull out

Bigger Looks very solid to me. Maybe 8-10ft. Those blokes are a long way from the action and still look small Put it this way I would be staying on the beach.
