Does anyone who has surfed outside corner know how to get back to the beach and what are the options when it goes wrong or you have to swim in,I know padang is an option but how Much beach is there at low tide, looks like mostly cliff .cheers

Where you surf round Ulu's all depends on the conditions of the day & where you choose to go. Outside corner only breaks when its seriously big...getting in you wanna aim for pantai suluban which is a lil bit of sand in the caves & crevice of Ulu's where u head out. When it gets big enough for outside corner to break, there's generally a sweep running North. So when your coming in u wanna time it right or you have 2 options, visit Padang or circle back & try again. Ulu's is a serious wave big or small.

Straighten out aim for the right side of the cave. Paddle like buggery if you miss it.

i've been swept down the coast, just headed in randomly

there are little nooks and beaches, especially at low tide (when OC best) and climbed up a path - locals go down to the beaches to fish etc

funny thing was , still an old bloke asking if i need my board carried

its a fair hike down to padang but getting in there has no bogies
could slot your self in at the top of the line up, would be cranking if OC big - used to be better option when crowds were less

Snapped a leggie out their on a solid day with a high tide. You have no chance of getting back to the cave due to the sweep if your down the point a bit. There was a fair bit of carnage that morning so I had a couple of new buddies with snapped boards and the three of us swam down to a small beach on the Ulu side of Padang Padang. There are a couple of small paths cut into the cliff we noticed on the way down but on the high tide you would get smashed against cliff face. Walked back to the warungs an hour later and wife still reading a book getting massage like nothing happened. I feel she wasn't concentrating on my performance. On a side note just around the big rock at the end of race tracks there is a little bay where all snapped and lost boards go to die. Wait for low tide try and beat the local board repair boy down their and your board should be waiting. Can't guarantee condition, especially if fore mentioned repair boy gets to it first.

Yeah, all fair points above. You want to be able to swim at least a kilometre before you even entertain the idea. It looks quite good out there from on top of the cliff, that's what I thought. Twice I've surfed outside corner big obviously the first time I didn't quite learn. It's not really the size of the wave that gets you, its timing the exit to the cave. If you miss you really do get dragged down the point and its fast you turn around the caves 50 metres than 100 and that's within ten fifteen seconds. You want a big board too I'm 100 kg 6 foot tall and felt my 72 needed to be a 7'6. If you get one you are the king and the island of Bali welcomes you back ashore like a hero. If you stuff it up its a huge( massive) swim to the safety of padang and even if you do make one at outsides, you will be waiting 30 or 40 minutes for the right one.(by right one I mean one that is only partially terrifying as opposed to a mutant fast one) anyway enjoy

I surfed it big last year, missed the exit, and spent 30-45 mins trying to time my way in further down the line. Pretty hectic, but I made it in un-damaged. Heading down to padang crossed my mind.
