They're a pretty solid camera mate. Full 1080p HD footage so can't go wrong. They're durable, cheap and can be purchased with a range of mounts.

They're being used loads in professional productions such as mythbusters and other big name shows. Jump on youtube and search 'go pro hd surf' and you'll see plenty of examples of full HD surf footage.

I've got a few on order right now.

I don't have the HD gopro but it still takes good video and excellent photos. I reckon the photo option is the best. You can set it to take a photo every 2 or 5 seconds. It's 5mp and they come out at 1mb each. Good quality
Here is a video I put together with the gopro on my paddle.
Check out my other videos on my YouTube channel greensuproom.
Enjoy

They do have their limitations. FOG. The evapourative cooling of water on the outside, and the camera's mechanism heats up a little creates fog on the camera lens real easy. I surf in cold water, fogging might not be an issue in warmers water. There are humidity sachets you can put in to varying success. You really need to understand the menu of it when your out of the water......the camera may turn itself off at the critical time of filming. Dont set the camera up in the car since you are packing the cars humid air into the housing.
What is strange is that it will not fog during scuba diving. i think the squeezing of the housing with depth keeps the moisture suspended in the air inside the camera. Also there would be no evapourative cooling on the outside fully submersed. It is still a great buy but spend time to tackle the hard to follow menu. And what every you do....keep the camera in the housing at all times down the beach.
The fish eye view can be an advantage and a disadvantage. Underwater shots look great. If you are NOT in a deep barrel, the camera will make wave look kinda small and ordinary. Even if the wave is really steep the camera doesnt really pick it up. So if you are poor at barrel riding... and you want a go pro...you will be dissappointed. I think that a mate on the beach with a great optical zoom cam corder is a better option overall.
FOGGING in cold conditions may be stopped if go pro tried some thicker housing to insulate the temperature differences between the outside and inside of the camera. Go Pro Dessicators are a bit of an afterthought.
Have fun!

Pretty sure you can change the lens so it's not a fish eye. Also you have the option of the LCD backpack so you can view footage etc.
I took one to Japan snowboarding earlier this year and it was awesome, although I wish i took a pole mount for it.
No problems with fogging i just made sure i put the camera in the housing outside in the cold and dry rather than the warm appartment.

hey guys, I've had a gopro for a good yeah now and its been genuinely awesome..! Fog was definitely an issue at the start, but I bought some anti-fog inserts and that helped a lot, it still fogged up occasionally so i sought a way to get rid of it completely. I read on a forum to but a few layers of tissue (thats right tissue..!) between the back of the camera and the housing and that will absorb the rest of the heat, as soon as I have done that, there has been NO problems with fogging. So fogging really shouldn't be an issue.

I did however struggle to find a good place to buy but eventually found these guys - www.naturalnecessity.com.au/gopro

Free shipping and helpful customer service, so yeah worth checking out if you're keen to get one :)
