I think they would make a great kiteboard, I havnt ridden one but I saw someone riding a similar type of board the other day. Looked very different to a standard shortboard (whateva that is these days ) on a wave.
but has anyone ridden a vanguard? or even seen one in the shops?? I'm stragely attracted to it. I like the concept just not the explaination of the science behind some of the features.
There's one in whatever Vidler's is called these days. I'd like to ride one but wouldn't spring the cash on an unknown quantity without demoing. I have some concerns about the shape that I'd like to test out first.
With such a straight rail I would think it would give alot of drive, lots of tail area though, not good for powerful waves but the length might change that.

Hey Bertie, yeah I've ridden one a couple of times. Check out Dan Thompson. He has been shaping them for a while and its his template that firewire have used. there are a heap of vids of him and others riding them on youtube. Personally I've only had it out in 4 foot reef point and a door with the hinges still on would go well out there. but I did enjoy it.
Im 90kgs and I ride the 5'10" could easy go the 5'8" - its a breeze to paddle catches waves nicely and is the most fun board in my quiver, still love my 5'6" sweet potato for the knee high stuff but the Vanguard is the go to board now for just about all sizes. It looks different and gets the comments but it sure does come alive on a wave - Im old (42) and broken so its all about the stoke for me and this board is certainly that. There have been some comments that you need to be an advanced rider for it - quite the opposite just dont get all caught up that it looks too different from the norm.
FireWire are bringing out a 5'4" Vanguard kitesurfboard later this year with a bit more reinforcement than the current surf model. I hear it is fast, good upwind and is best suited to surf under 3ft.
Allright pick mine up on wednesday, bought from star hillaries 860 bucks 5'10 Im 100 kg and six foot review will follow.
Sore point; put deposit down 16th last month told 5 days for delivery it landed there yesterday..... Dont get fins must buy seperate, is this a fire wire thing ?
Positive point:: now i will surf like thomo and stu kennedy put together ( in my imagination) Extended delay may mean my tactic of wanting tail pad and leash for free will have some justification (normally i wouldnt try)
PS me normal shaper is dale chapman or boards from a mixture of steve del rosso, ocean line, insight
Curiosity just got the better of me on this one had to have one................
Looking forward to the review of this board. I spent a long time thinking about one a few weeks back. I saw a couple in action whilst on holiday and the fellas riding them were flying on them. They look like speed demons. The told me that as long as the waves have some push they go unreal. Said that in smaller weak crappier beachies they are not the best performer.
Hope you enjoy the new toy!
I ride my SP as a quad and love it - have some KS Quad fins.

Comments on firewire boards in regards to fins?
Any news yet on your board Razzonator - would like to know how you are getting on with it. How is it performing in weak / crappier conditions? What about paddle float - you happy with the 5'10"? Any news would be great!!!
