Soul Boardstore have shapers fins to fit futures at $40 a set. We can usually get the one replacement for the Simon Andersons if needed, proberly around $40 but would need to confirm.

How fins have changed.

I sold a board the other night and offered the purchaser a set of plastic FCS... He turned me down, didn't even want them!

I must have at least three plastic FCS thruster sets which don't get used. They always come on trips as back-up spares though.

Perhaps it's the fact that I'm not a ripper but as a serious question, how much difference do the fins make? I mean in serious changes to performance. I find so many other things would result in greater change. I would change the flatness, volume or width of the board. It might be just me but I have a lightly glassed board and I can almost feel a flex in it as I squirt along a wave compared to a heavier glassed board. If we are on the topic of fins, I notice bigger fins obviously seem to give more bite. The number of fins and their angle in surely make a difference too.

But can someone answer how much serious difference would an expensive set of fins make compared to a cheaper set of identically sized fins? Am I missing out on something by not having flash fins?

I think the base size is the main thing, If I put a large set in the board feels stiff etc. Plastic fins have a dead feel about them.

Glass in fins are miles better than any FCS, Futures etc imo.

I swapped out the standard fins in the misus fish (6'3") with H-2 fcs fins made a huge difference in how it turn for me but for her, not much but that also depends on the wave too

They will.add heaps more drive and controlled flex. Compare a plastic size 5 to.a.performance core and it stands out. A lot

HUUUUGE difference! Take my go-to shorty;5'8",a bit fishy... put medium H2s in for gutless grovellers, PC5s in for up to head, and Sunny Garcia Carbons in for overhead. Near full versatility in one board!

And the plastics really are only good for emergencies or sweetening up a used board deal to the clueless.

Have had Bali knock offs. Crap. Worse that plastic FCS.

K mart tyres versus Pirelli. Euro car versus Chinese car. The right fins / size will light a board up. Sadly many boards are sold with cheap fins which don't do the boards justice.

Good fins are worth it, I've been lucky until now, had access to some great hand made fins from this guy, store.finsunlimited.com,(he's the guy that invented futures) got enough to last me for quite some time.

I reckon its a bit of a myth that glassed on fins are better, the old fcs is crap, but most of the new systems are just as good as glass on. the only real advantage to glass on's are that the surfer who has no idea about fins does not get to choose the fins and cause a great shape to perform like crap.

by plastic fins I assume this means the glass flex FCS ones? ... not the old black ones. The old black ones were horrible but the glass flex (which is plastic with glass like performance apparently) feel better than the expensive ones to me. I am not sure why this is. I bought some Mick Fanning FCS for 150 bucks but went back to glass flex pretty quickly.

Nah I'm in the same boat, have done a ton of swapping fins and couldn't notice any difference, just run with plastics now.
