I have been fixing up the odd Gum-tree Specials over the past couple of months.

This has got me thinking about making a surfboard.

Does anyone know, or have a list of the required tools for the job?

I have seen a few starter kits online, however I don't know whats really required and or, whats overkill.

Also, who is the best person to grab a blank from on the Sunshine Coast?

Cheers.

Planer, surform, orbital sander, sanding blocks both soft and hard and sand paper. There's a good chance it's going to be a pig but you'll love it anyway. Nothing beats the feeling of looking at and surfing a board that you've crafted yourself. Glass it yourself. It sucks and it's sticky and smelly but it's best to get the full experience. Watch a few you tube vids to get an idea... I shaped my first in my garage under flat light on an ironing board... It wasn't the best but I ended up kiting on it for a full year till it fell apart... There's heaps of other stuff as you go on but keep it simple for the first one.... If anything you'll see why real shapers charge so much for a custom.... Have fun Stoking the Stoke....

+1 on what Benny said, though don't be scared of epoxy - less smelly so your next door neighbours might still like you after you build your board!
