One of the video's from the Bunyip and Iguana era had footage of one of the Biullabong comps at Kirra.

Some of the best footage I can remember of Kirra which I want to show a few of the groms to explain what the fuss is all about.

Could include Shane Beschen 3 perfect 10's in one heat if it was the right year but for a few years Rabbit as contest director seemed to be able to dial up cyclone swells

Anyway would like to buy the movie as my copy long gone.

I know Bunyip Dreaming had the city dreaming section at the start and had some Kirra footage but that was pre Shane Beschen

Search Chris bystrom and Kirra in YouTube as well and there a few videos from the early 90's. it's amazing how long everyone's boards look compared to today's standards.

Also try finding Billabong's - Surf into Summer. Even better footage than Suns of fun IMO.
One grom gets the barrel of a life time. Also has footage of Occ v Curren at bells footage.

Sik Joy has the Kirra footage in it. Perfect green barrels!

You should be able to buy all of the Jack McCoy vids in the box set
You see them all the time in surfshops
Sick movies and not a single air reverse to speak of

There is a wave I remember watching which was at Kirra

The surfer basically came out of an average barrel, free fell down a step with no speed and then just got so shacked. I dont know how he managed to regain speed.

Looking forward to seeing it again to see if it lives up to my memory of it.

The surfer was Donovan Frankenreiter before he picked up the guitar in Sik Joy, Sunny won that event.

The other when Shane beschen got the 3 10's was another year I think. The song for the section was 'we're only gonna die for our arrogance' by sublime if I'm right in that one.

I have them and I'd watch them to find out but watching bells.

Googled Sik Joy but couldnt find anything for Kirra.

Any link would be greatly appreciated.

Bunyip and Iguana are uploaded and had a look through. Has some Kirra footage in Green Iguana but not what I am chasing. Very fast with Occy, Rabbit and others racing but not the barrells that I remember seeing.

I am surprised that the perfect heat of Beshen doesnt get that big a mention these days. They seem to talk more about Slaters and Parkinsons for two perfect waves. Surely somewhere there is some footage of this out there.

Off to have a look for as suggested Kirra the day after the contest.

How is Josh Kerrs wave near the end. Ridiculous.

I'm not sure I've seen footage better than that or seen Kirra better than that.

As usual I was overseas when this swell hit. My mates are now asking me for my schedule so they know when to get their boards ready.

A bit like some FIFO workers I know who either seem to be in a good or bad cycle with swells and swings off and on.

I think it was Storm Riders but may be another where Rabbit has some footage of a cyclone swell at Kirra. He talks about having been snow skiing just before the swell and was surfing in the tube with feet almost side by side.

Havent been on that side of the country for a while now so not sure how much sand is sitting at Kirra. Still find it surreal having surfed second groyne to see it sitting with another 50m of sand in front of it.

The wave I remember is at about 2.50 and from what you said its Donovan Frankenreiter. I just love how it starts out as an average wind swept tube and then he drops down the step and just gets a keg. His body language shows just how blown away he was with the wave as well.

Again thanks so much as this bit of footage brings back a lot of memories. Not of surfing Kirra (I wish) but lots of fun times down south and amping up on these movies.
