So if you had no Wife/Husband, Kids, Career holding you to your current location, where would you relocate too purely for the waves? (In Australia)

Im only 21, I have no wife or kids and my current job isnt exactly something I see myself doing for the rest of my life. So I have nothing holding me to this waveless joint... I.e. Brisbane.

So Im thinking small coastal town, decent uncrowded waves. And well thats my criteria.
The cold water and sharks arent a worry. I just need to get away from the crowds and live a simple life.

Ive always really liked the north coast of nsw, but Im not sure if most places are like Byron and busy as fark... I like how Tasmania seems to be pretty much untouched but its cold. WA could be an option but its on the other side of the country. I think QLD is pretty much out of the race, purely because of crowds.

I have to be realistic about this if I want it to work. So Ill have to save some money before I even think about going anywhere.

Yes Ive posted this in both the short and long forum so I can get a range of opinions. And no Im not looking for coordinating points to you top secret spot. :P

You're a funny man Weiry!

Newcastle north to the border for me. Beachies, points, awesome fishing , fresh or salt. And affordable real estate. As far as I could ascertain when I was looking at the option the only downsides are flooding and lack of employment.

+1 for Newcastle and north, some great waves of all varieties ..l live just north but moving back to Perth due to lack of employment as mentioned. Not too disappointed tho, great surf there if you don't mind a bit of a drive, arguably the best surf in the country...

I feel for ya Phil
Drop me a PM when you get back here and you can jump in and share fuel costs.

I agree we have some of the best surf in Oz but all of it is a bloody long way from Perth. Friggen hot too.

Best advice it's an APP called " Get out of the house!" you'll find everything from there!

I would jump in the car and get looking, wont get a better chance to discover your own sweet set up then now IMO.

Make a short list and get stuck into it!

Not Perth , the joints pathetic for surf these days and has been for most of the year IMO . Total waste of time!

Sounds like you should be heading for Yamba on the NSW mid-North East coast. The place is super low key like your looking for , plenty of waves but I wouldn't expect to pick up much work there.

When I was your age I did a solo surf trip from Brisbane to WA . If I could do it all again I would definitely set up camp in Yamba for a while.

Camped and surfed Yamba and surrounds for 30 years. Should own the place. Not what I'd call low key now though. Still a few quieter spots around.

I recon Evans Head mid north coast would be on the top of my list
