Hi, I ride a short board and have many years surfing experience. Currently i am studying at university. There is a fantastic opportunity that i have where i can basically study anywhere in the world for a year. I am wondering where i should go for a study n surf extravaganza. My accommodation would be relatively inexpensive and would be there for me as soon as i arrive as it is organised by my university here in Australia. I also would be getting Austudy whilst studying and a special grant which would cover return airfare and more. Basically its an amazing opportunity that i think if i passed up I would regret.
My only question now is, where do i go? Where would u go?
I would like to surf long clean 4-5 foot waves, reef and point breaks would be preferred, warm water and would like to have access to both rights and lefts with minimal crowds and long rides.
I am not to fussed about partying as when i am not surfing i will be studying and just enjoying local culture and quiet atmosphere with a few crew. Also looking for a place that is fairly cheap to live.
I am thinking of going to Fiji, only thing is that surf access will not be as easy as jumping off the beach and paddling out cause i would need to get on a boat each week, so far though, fiji sounds excellent apart for the access and cost of surfing on the boats which i could do but is costly....
I have had a few people I know go to Indonesia. Unfortunately Indonesia has something like 17,000 islands or something, so where exactly I don't know but I will ask when I see them next.
Not as expensive, warm water, close to beach .... all the goodness.
Well, i do need to go where the uni's are but there surely is a university in Bali that I could go to. I will need to check that out. I know Bali has great waves but is it easy to get around in Bali? What are the conditions like when its not the surfing season for clean waves? Is there somewhere to always go that always has good waves?
From what i know about Bali, yes it has great surf but it gets crowded. Thats why i am thinking fiji....
yeah stay away from bali... getting to the uni is a nitemare, the surf is always crowded and overrated and there's nothing to do when there's no waves.... which is almost all the time.... better off going to fiji, their political system is way more stable and their uni is in no way overrun with indian students and its a cinch to get to quality waves that aren't fronted by resorts
