Normally surf a 5'11 x 18 1/2 x 2 1/4 and hold myself pretty well in the line up. Picked up a 6'6 x 20 1/4 x 2 5/8 and after a few surfs, am not digging it. So much foam! Feels so wierd!

Anybody else have this same problem before? In my defence, $150 for a white shiny ding-less major brand pop out that obviously a beginner has given up learning on, I don't think I loss much

Not sure how it'd go in Bali. Maybe time to sell it off and use the money on a performance board.

Why did you go for such a different board, bigger waves or just wanted a change?

Honestly not too sure mate. Was looking for a bigger board for Indo as a few mates have said my 6'1's and 5'11's are too short but stumbled upon the 6'6 and I guess the shiny new white foam got me. Should have waited it out and got something else; retaining the width and thickness while extending the length but I guess as still a beginner, I am learning about it all.

How much do you weigh?

I agree, with a small wave shorty there is definitely such a thing as to much foam. End up getting stuck in the lip instead of gliding down the face.....especially in sucky conditions.
For larger open faced waves extra foam can be a good thing.

you don't really need a heaps bigger board in indo as the waves are so much cleaner, smoother and lined up. if you normally ride a 5'11 - 6'1 a 6'4 or thereabouts with the right outine and rocker would do in situations up to 6-8 foot. (usually)

You've gone to wide if you want a board for bigger waves....what you need is water line length or rail length for bigger waves...I would also look for something with lower entry rocker which will assist in getting you up to speed quicker when your paddling....

Indo step up should be say 6 inches longer and 1/4 inch thicker, usually with more rocker than your shorty.

That board sounds far too wide.
