Hi Guys...Just looking for some advice from the experts on here...
I am looking at taking my first surf trip to Indo mid next year...I currently use cold water wax on my boards and am wondering do I need to remove this before going to the tropics so I don't end up with a gooey mess. Or can I just put warm water wax over the top???
cheers

Nah, better to travel with no wax, especially cold water as it melts easy. There is no more frustrating thing on this planet than trying to get a board that the wax has melted and soaked into your board bag out of the bag.

You are better with a hard base and softer layer for the tropics. Sex Wax Red generally does the trick all round though. I find the purple can get slippery especially at waves with colder currents that can appear.

Wax & grease remover from Repco is your answer, scrape then with a soaked rag rub the rest of the wax off, done. Then go to Indo and get shacked outta your brains!!!!

Sex Wax Purple for the whole year for me !! I like it tacky !! Just like my girls ! Haha!

In summer I have to hide my boards from the sun, as purple gets mushy very quickly... but once you're in the water, problem gone...

But in the tropics I'll usually start fresh with harder wax.

I've been having heaps of trouble with wax of late and a mate who spends half his life in indo surfing suggested I clean the board off completely and use hard ****** wax as a base coat and then warm ****** wax as a top coat, applied using small circles. I have been using ****** wax and having it come off so I reluctantly tried his theory and buggerme it came up in beautiful little beads and not a single ounce of it is coming off now and its as grippy as anything I have ever used. Years ago I had similar results with sex wax but it got too damned expensive and doesn't always mix well with other waxes if you need to grab a non sex wax somewhere out of desperation. So I can highly recommend the ****** method and sex wax used a similar way so long as you have guaranteed access to sex wax where you are travelling to.

you guys should check out 'stick it' wax (http://www.stickitgroup.com/stickitboardwax.htm) its easily the best wax we've found and Gaz has tailored it for all water temps. We keep telling him he is going to do himself out of business because the blocks are bigger and it lasts at least 3 times longer than the other brands, and its the same price.
