Geez I bet that shark bickie was crapping his wettie. I like the form of the other shark bickie dude hiding behind the longboarder.
I think humour works, I was out at Wategos in Byron and saw a shark swim right underneath me, I looked at the old salt sitting next to me and he just said dont worry the backpackers out here are more dangerous than that! Chuckled a bit and when I looked again the shark was well gone.
Agree Dazza, was surfing North Strad a few years back on a little a-frame with a long time local and friend. He goes 'aaah don't go left for a while, there's a 6 foot bronzey in the gutter' he said it so cool, I just went right for a bit and the shark disappeared.
Later that day i watched the shark bell go off 3 times as the clubbies were chasing one around out the back. Everytime it head for the beach they rang the bell. All of the families swimming dutifully got out and waited on the sand. They'd get the nod and then all go back in, then it would ring again.
I thought at most beaches people would freak and go home, I got the idea sharks are a very common occurence on this Island.
