Had a great weekend with the 7 YO at Cronulla last weekend at the Wahoo Groms comp. Well run series which works well keeping the kids occupied (beach cricket, blowup rafts, other Wahoo products etc)
This is a great way to introduce your child to healthy competition...I guess a boardriders club is also good but they mostly dont cater for them that young.
This was her first contest and in the under 9's you could "parent assist" which means parents help push them through/onto the waves. There was only 4 girls in this division (7-9) with the winner being so far in front talent-wise it was no contest..the winner even won the under 11 girls.
However, competition for 2nd-4th place was more closer/even...my daughter ended up coming 3rd with a 3rd and 2nd place in her 2 heats (out of 4).
I didnt realise how much she enjoyed it until she told me the next day it was the best thing she had ever done. Looking forward to next year and getting more involved in the contests...not so much for winning but from what I noticed it helps them concentrate more when they are in a contest environment and that in turn helps with skill improvement.
