A female mate of mine spent a few weeks diving in PNG in a small group of 8 people with no trouble (inc in Wewak) but theres no way I'd take my missus to PNG unless we had an aussie guide and in a group of people. I'd take a mate and send the missus away somewhere nice, after you get back

Its an interesting, stunning place but many of the locals really are uncivilised.

I spend a bit of time in PNG and answer is I would not take mine personally. Heaps of Aussie expats do though, personal call on that one you need to make I guess.
Get used to the buai spit as well
