Greetings long timers. It's been a while. Hope all are well!

So anyone have a good tip or two of getting out the back. See since the thing is I've moved interstate and where I was so use to Perth with it's 20m paddle out where you were more worried about dodging drop ins and SUPs, I'm now constantly finding myself struggling with the 50-100m or so paddle outs. This is particularly so on big days when you get hit by unrelenting sets.

Is this rather me needing to hit the pool and get some laps under my belt or am I simply still kooking around?

Cheers all! Go Tiges!

And a sidenote; don't you hate it when you ding your new board post first surf!

Yeah, a kook.

Or simple lack of paddle fitness.

Hey NG, I surf a couple of breaks that have long paddles I have found the following to be the best help:

Pick the best path out by watching for a good 10-15min, pool and gym work for aorobic and anaerobic fitness so you can recover quicker between sets and sprint when you need to and in general just try and relax and breathe deep.

Fitness, strength and duck diving technique there are those that have never done a day's work in their life who turn up with a large degree of the lot then there are people like me who have to work train surf 4 days a week to attain the same.

As SW suggests get a good underlying fitness level so you can recover in the water, that comes from running, bike or whatever, I do at least 70 to 100 kms a week on the bike great for washing life's stresses away too.

The more work you put in the more waves / fun will come your way
