Has anyone in Perth brought a tinnie to access the outer reefs and if so was it worth it, did it open up many more options for you or is it to hit and miss. Interested to hear feedback after a trip up north along indian ocean drive looks like so many possibilities, I think you could get stuck up there for a long time exploring awesome setups.

Nah, all the outer reef waves are crap. No one here ever goes out there.

I fished from lanno to jurien for 5 years. get a chart.....................................................if someones out there already be polite................wait your turn............................feb to april....................sept and october............... you must be able to handle a dingy in big conditions.. Whilst I was fishing a guy called sharky (some may know him) rolled his dingy with dazzler. It was on sunset and 3miles out (hint) they had to paddle in to one of the islands and the sun was going down, they were stalked all the way by the man in the grey suit and spent the night on the island whilst half the lads were looking for them. In the morning they made it to the beach. Look and you will find, but no-one will put you onto it. Learn your tides be confident i n your boating ability. On the charts have a look at what the reefs are called that should be enough info. enjoy

I guess the biggest issue is you would need time up your sleeve To grab a board, drive some were and jump in takes time as it is, but then add hook up boat trailer, launch at a spot near were you want to surf, travel to that spot and then anchor up, Retrieve anchor, drive back to ramp, retrieve boat and drive home, wash boat and trailer i can personally can see a at least doubling of your time

Not to mention yearly registration, service costs and boat license.

BUT I guess if you live close to a spot that requires a boat than you may get the value, obviously many do and then i guess you've also got a nice setup to do a small spot of fishing or other boatie type stuff

The funny part for me is although i've dived for years, i just never feel that comfortable/confident anchoring near surf breaks and leaving the boat on its own. I guess that could be because i often hear horror stories from others who have had issues

I've thought about doing this also, but lack of space at home is an issue.

Keen to share though.

Sounds like the Chinese whispers got a hold of this story. Daz is a good mate of mine and although the story was pretty radical there was no sharks (although they wouldnt have been far away) nor a night on the island involved. They actually towed the dingy behind and took turns of paddling all the way to shore and got in about 1am. Pretty decent effort all round
