Look to be booking an August trip Telo Islands, staying at Surfing Village.

Found this thread www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Surfing/Shortboards/Telo-Island-Surfing-Village-in-July/ and wondering how those visiting last year fared swell, wind and crowd wise?

Any advice regarding flights Perth - Padang appreciated.

Fly return with Airasia vi KL should set you back around 700 bucks, even cheaper if they've got a good sale on.

You can fly via Bali but if you're bringing a quiver you might get stung with the magical surfboard tax.

Also make sure you book flights to Padang, and not Penang. Apparently that's a common mistake...

went there a few years ago. it really is remote and not many crowds. guys who went to mentawais at the same time got better waves for some reason. we also spent a lot of time getting to and checking for waves which are quite spread out. not like some other spots where the waves are all in close boat distance.

Probably wouldn't go back

Looks nice, how much is that place, do they have AC rooms? Enough good snorling & stuff to keep the missus happy?

Its definitely not Telos Island resort and only fans in rooms but you dont really need a.c anyway. The island can be circumnavigated by motorbike in about 3-4 hrs and has two main towns which are by no means advanced but thriving communities - think legian back in the late 70s early 80s.Its a classic place ya cruising on your bike and come around a corner to a troupe of monkeys crossing the road in front of you jungle both sides. Its a Muslim island so woman should wear shorts and shirt (not bikinis) in public, beers can be had at Aura but theres no pubs or night life, works in favour of lower crowds. The locals are really friendly, and its a welcome change to places like Bali-PLUS its about half the price of Telos Resort
