Has anyone here stayed at Surfing Village - if so what are your thoughts. I've heard mixed reports about the Telos.
Some say the surf is not as reliable as the Ments.

I have been to the Tel Island Lodge and was trying to pick out if any of the waves shown were the ones I got to surf.

Map doesnt help on the website

Latitude Zero was the other lodge up that way that I have heard about.

Got some great waves and also go a few days skunked by the winds.

The lodge had a great right out the front and a left at the back of the island and if you had just these waves you would be happy but needed a bit of swell to get going.

Go to Telos if you are fat and a kook like me !!!

In other words, don't go if your expectations are to surf 6-8 foot square waves over shallow reef. (Although these sort of waves can be found on the right day).

Surfing Village is run by some Brazillians and is a fair distance south of the Lodge and Lat Zero. If you go there, I reckon make sure you take your malaria meds!!!

We did a run from the Lodge down to the wave in front of Surfing Village when we had a bit of swell. Took well over an hour by speed boat. It looks like it is a good wave, and other waves in the same area.

There is a huge varierty of waves on offer in the Telo

Have a read of this wave review taken from the lodge website. I asked Dave if he would go back there and he said yes as it is such a great wave !!!!

Depth Charges
Death and carnage is the best way to describe this break. One of the heaviest waves in Indonesia DC?s has been the scene of some of the most horrific accidents in surfing. Our guide Dave Simons has broken his back there, Joel Parkinson has been knocked unconscious and the list goes on. Needless to say we don?t often surf here unless it is one of the two or three days a year when the highly experienced surfer would be willing to have a crack. 35 minutes from the lodge.

I went feral in this area in the early 90's, living with locals and exploring. Best wave I reckon is the one out the front of the now named surfing village. Needs a bit of swell to start up but it's world class when it does. I have mates that have been and are going this year to the SV and Apparently Brazzo guy Mario is pretty cool. Few nice fun rights and a left like Bears for when swell is small. Decent Beachie too. Be waves even when small but need to score a decent swell to get barrelled. If the winds blow straight south.... No real options in that southern region. North winds.... Great success! Enjoy.... The right is amazing if u get it solid

This was our guide Steve at DC's.

He could surf a bit. We had fun watching him from the boat

A bit like Serangan is a ****ter wave until it gets to a similar size. The same could be said of Sengiggi, it's all fun and games 'til it hits six foot, then those beltable bits become freight train barrels with a questionable exit point. My scariest Indo surf ever was at maxing Serangan, looked pretty doable but geez it was heavy. Deadly even.

Been to the telos two years in a row now and staying at Latitude Zero . The best wave ive surfed is out the front of the Brazzo camp . Its called Bombers i believe . The rest of the waves are mixed and can be good but sometimes a little small. Great place to warm up but if you want to get tested you will have to wait for a decent swell .

well JJD u can provide surf report soon eh?

bombers seemed a long way from anywhere and one would need a boat

I think there was a promo picture of AI doing big aerial at bombers a few years ago

seemed to be a few other waves around the south end of the island where bombers is - finger bay

we had it good but was a good swell running and could see it doing much in smaller swells

Thanks for all the advice fellas. Bombers (the brazzos call it Pasti) looks to be pretty fun even when it's small and being straight in front of the camp should be a worthy trip.
It seems a fair bit cheaper than Latitude Zero but there is an overnight boat trip either way so I guess you would get more time in the water at LZ

If you have the money, I reckon go Lat Zero or TIL. Whilst I have bever been to SV, nor LZ my guess is:

- food and accommodation much better at LZ/TIL
- much more civilised to fly in to the local airport than do the overnight crossing (and now it appears just as likely to get lost at sea as the plane flying into a mountain)
- more options LZ/TIL as almost all winds are covered - I have been to TIL three times, and over 30 days, I have only had one no-surf day, and that was more hangover related !
- not sure what boats SV has, but LZ/TIL have modern speedboats.

TIL has 8 guests and LZ 18. Not sure how many at SV.
