..... do you have a preference? Splitter, 1, 3 or 5 piece? Creatures of Leisure, Komunity, Da Kine, Modom? Arch Bar or Flat? Or no pad at all.

What's your favourite?

Just interested to know what people recommend as I've always bought one piece Komunity pads and I fancy trying something different. If there is a difference at all?

When you are surfing can you remember what your pad feels like?

Where do you drive off your back foot?

If you don't know then it wont matter.

Far king 2 piece. It really doesn't matter too much for me as long as it stays on and has a nice kick for duckdiving but these seem to hold up pretty well and don't turn my knees into soup.
On this note is anyone onto a decent fish pad that hasn't got a massive v? Looking for one for a mini sims but there's not much out there

I used to be all Creatures, but last couple have been from Tools surf (TLS), a Japanese guy in Australia. They're good.

Gorilla do an extra wide fish pad with the huge V you seek mitchbat. No kick as on shorter fishes would be banging on the knees whilst paddling..

Curious to know too, if you've got a board you've been using with no tail pad but all waxed up, can you still stick a tail pad on it? Or will the chances be it'll come off sooner or later?

Just make sure the surface is clean and completely wax free. Scrape off all the wax and then clean the residue with wax and grease remover or I use a product called "wax off". Once you think its clean use a clean rag and clean it a few more times to make sure, wipe it again with a clean rag and stick the tailpad on.

Ive done this and no signs of lifting over a year later.

Ive used Creatures and shapers tailpads, both have a arch in the middle, don't notice any difference between the two, as others have said mainly use it to lock my foot into to push the tail down duckdiving.

I'm going back to el'natural on my next board. I'm sick of those cold winter days when the pad doesn't feel as grippy for the first couple of waves. I prefer a fresh coat of combed winter wax.

Just get a longboard one and cut it to the shape you want.

Sorry about that, criticial mis-read. The O&E fish or the gorrilla Ozzie Wrong tie dye may fit the bill. You could go the O&E centre deck and cut to the desired shape.

Have used Komunity, Gorilla and O&E pads in the past and would use them again.

I've had issues with Creatures pads coming off before, despite being pretty anal about prepping my board and putting the pads on properly, then leaving them to 'set' for a few days before getting them wet.

One of the creatures pads started to peel off on one session down south when the waves were firing and I had the place pretty much to myself. Stupidly I tried to pull the pad off while in the water and ended up taking glass with it and water logging my board.

Epic session over, board ruined, never buy creatures again!

Thanks Doggie, good advice but they're pretty $$. PCo's idea with the centre deck is perfect.
