He was well clear of the barrel when he fell off, which is the scoring part of the wave, once they make the barrel they tend to just exit the wave however they like. Absolutely pumping surf, J Bay and Chopes have really turned it on this year.

Kai's 10 was the best ride of the day though, monstered through the foam ball, could not believe he got out.

If you think that's heavy! You have obviously never surfed Greenough River before.

Everyone should take 40 minutes out of their day to watch Slater v JJ in the semi, incredible heat, best I have ever seen.

I don't agree with the result though, Kelly's 9.77 was overscored, and I think the first exchange should both have been 10's.

Anyone have any links to the JJ v Slater semi? ASP doesnt seem to have uploaded the heat....

I saw snippets of it but wanna rewatch semi final from start to finish.......

Epic waves. Was well worth the week on standby!!

I honestly expected the first 20-20point tie after the way they were both surfing on the day.

Another gift for Medina
The asp must think he's more marketable than others at the moment

On stage at the awards ceremony...Congrats are in order for Gabriel Medina and his performance this week. There are more conversations happening about this guy than anyone and for good reason. He's the most dangerous guy in the world of surfing. Why?

Just this year he won at Snapper, a wave dominated by regular footers for over 10 years. He won in Fiji, one of the classic waves on tour. And now he wins the #BillabongProTahiti in giant surf, an event that he wasn't considered to be a main threat by many people. That's exactly why Medina has become so dangerous...he can and does win in waves/conditions where he doesn't even have a lot of experience at yet and people don't know what to expect.

He's more determined and hungry for the win than any other surfer. He's complete, combining airs, barrel riding, and carving. He can shoot whole video parts in single sessions. He has passed every test thrown his way. Even though I'm gonna do everything in my power to stop this guy this year, I'm a big fan of his surfing and he's a really good guy.

The biggest obstacles he will face in his career will be staying motivated long-term and dealing with a fanatical, Brasilian fan base (#BrasilianSwarm?) that is resting the hopes of a country on his shoulders. I'm sure he'll accept and handle that challenge like every other one thrown his way so far. Congratulations for your #Teahupoo win and hold on for a huge career ahead.

slater must have tried to lose that final, he had 2 waves that could have scored 10 and got nailed by both( apparently 8 foot barrels above the foam ball are makeable......) , still came up smiling but. he only lost by 2/100 on an average wave.( for the day) what a freak.

Kelly mind games?????????
ASP driven???????

Dunno if anyone else follows many of the other ASP surfers on social media, mainly instagram and FB.
I follow most of them and I have noticed there is not much praise for this kid when he wins.
But when Bourez won, totally different story, nearly every ASP surfer posted something saying how much he deserves is and how much of a good bloke was.
When an Aussie wins there is a ****load of traffic also.
When Medina won this event the only 2 posts I have seen have been from DeSouza and this strange one from Kelly.

I read into that the Kid isn't really liked amongst the ranks, and I think that may have a bit to do with the carrying on and bad sportsmanship shown in the previous years.

I don't think it was an accident that Kelly mentioned the weight of the whole country (Brazilian storm) on his shoulders. Kelly knows exactly what he's doing haha
I've disliked him since he cried when he lost and then Charlie (seriously why do we know his ****n stepdads name?? ) had a tanty on the beach.

That decision to gift Medina the final at Snapper at the start of the season was an absolute farce
Regardless of what country he resides
Don't get me started on his stepdad

Yep that was ****ed.
Parko was taking off behind the point doing air drops getting barrelled and then doing a big turn or 2, whilst Medina was sitting down the line and doing 6-7 lip smacks.
What a ****en joke that was.
