Good topic. Only last week I came across a great surfing app where you can check all nearest beaches to wherever you are. This app has all beaches around Australia that are pumping according to pre-set beach conditions. Anyway - last weekend I was bored and wanted to go on a good old surfing trip away from my local. So the app pointed to where the nearest surf was pumping and away I went. It was a great surprise to find the surf WAS actually pumping like the app said it was. See what you guys think anyway. Its called SURF FINDER.

WTF.

Its not that hard to find waves. just go to the beach and have a look. do that enough times and you will learn where to go. You dont need your phone unless you are ringing ya mates to let them know. Or sending a photo to show them what they are missing.

Ring your mates and you deserve to be dropped in on for the rest of your session. All your mates too.

Two first time posters. First one asks a stupid question. Second one promotes an app. Reckon that maybe they are the same bloke trying to pump the app? I reckon this/ these guy/s should take a walk.

Geez mate, your being pretty hard on a couple of new posters, the second guy has been helping many people out on other surfing forums suggesting the very same app, probably just been lurking on the forums for years and it's the first time he's felt he had something worthy to contribute and he is getting howled down as a troll, poor bloke Anyway does anyway know where I can get a decent board cover from?

Wow, thats a hell of a conspiracy theory. Ill be sure not to contribute something worthy unless I check with you guys first? I'm just a new surfer from another country who has finally made home here in Australia on the North Coast. Sorry for my input into what I thought was just a normal topic to respond to.....

Welcome aboard mate, some of us here as throughout the net do have a warped sense of humor. Don't take anything to heart because it's just us goofing around. Random question you're not by any chance a retired US military fighter pilot are you?

No sorry, just a hard working IT worker enjoying being in your country working hard. That why I thought it good topic to talk about for first time and thought you would use apps to check surf. Very similar to using surf reports from this website only it has messenger alerts. That all.

Seriously, I apologise guys. If that's the case then go ahead and I take back what I said. Seemed to be coincidence. There have been a fair few times in the past that people have tried advertising and that's what I though. Apologies mate.

I just looked at the beaches you can add and for WA it has Gealdton, Perth, Mandura and Margret River. Do you have big surf in WA?

Hey Mav welcome aboard, we are a pretty secretive bunch over here so that app kind of pisses me off. It all stems from a history of being ignored by the east coast for a hundred or so years and being left alone to do our thing. We developed a healthy distrust of outsiders and only shared things between ourselves. Recently we found vast deposits of minerals and energy, the whole east coast workforce and much of Britain's and South Africa's white population moved here with SUP's and Longboards stacked high on their SUV's. I hope this goes some way to explain Smicko's view and perhaps justifies PP's less than hospitable reply. Feel free to visit any time, just book a return flight and don't surf near seal colonies (which are everywhere)

Or just paddle out where someone is sitting by themself even though there is no one within a km of them
The sheep factor is phenomenal in surfing
You would think that if someone can surf then they can read the waves from the beach

Just when you think surfing cant get any worse off
Surfing is moving into the babysitters era
Does the app tell you to show some respect when you leave your local
People seem to forget that simple task these days. If there local is flat and somewhere else is good then it's no problem to overflow your car with kooks and hit someone else's local like a pack of hyenas

I'm guessing your referring to Kalbarri?
Every October I pack my car full of windsurfing gear and head north for the ever reliable seabreeze

Think is good idea to make this last mention of surf finder app. But yes it actually does tell everyone to respect locals and be good to mother nature. At least the developer hasn't sold out to advertising at least?
