This guy had the joint to himself on a Kai foil and a custom board at Deep Six, Cottesloe, WA last night.
I foil with a kite, but this looked really good in our autumn lull and swell as the sun went down.
In the 20mins I watch/took shots he got three/four runs - the first was more than 100m along the reef, and the others about 80m towards shore.
I think he said 700mm mast. It was a custom 5' board made by Amundson in Hawaii.

I'm not too sure about foils in the surf (unless they are well away from anyone else but of course this is possible because you barely need a wave), however downwinding on the open ocean is where I see the potential and where I am aiming.



Most people just wont see the point but as a lifetime surfer, windsurfer, kiter, stand up paddler I just enjoy the challenges of new experiences.

Yep, we have all head about surf and SUP foiling between the Hawaiian islands too. There's a great vid going around in kiter circles of a kiter on a normal twin-tip towing-in a SUP foiler who then does about 20km on offshore swells. Several of us are in the market for slower foils so we can do offshore wave sessions just using the seabreeze's swells, with only the flying fish and the occasional downwind SUP'er for company. Beauty of a kite is if you find a good section all it would take is couple of tacks and you're back on it ....

Yeah true, thats what everyone said about SUP's that they would open up so much of the coast where the waves aren't suitable to other craft - yet they ended up being used at every overcrowded lineup within easy access of a car-park.

The foils are cool though, as long as being used responsibly (nowhere near a lineup with anyone else)

Exactly mate..a couple have started trying to surf my local beaches where there are board surfers..very dangerous in that situation..
But swells in an uncrowded space they can realise their full potential.

Would you be able to install a shark shield on the blade
