Not being able to surf this morning because of a bronze med. re-qualification course (I do not suggest it after a big night ), I went for a surf in the arvo. Boy, was it so different!

Having surfed only in the morning I have only known blokes who don't talk and generally competition-like surfing. But this arvo, I was chatting to randoms, sharing waves and heck, my wave count even doubled.

So is it just me or you guys feel it too? Might hit the arvo surf more often after today

Yes the pre work early crew can take themselves and their wave count a bit too seriously.

Tell you what I notice about the after noon sesh is that these days we hardly ever get the afternoon glassoffs , damn it

not sure about that Kearnsy got two lago's this week down here, yep newguy the arvo is better because you've worked all day and you're just happy to be out there, however, be careful as the sun sets and never say "i'm going in" or "this is my last one" out loud as it's considered a curse by many superstitious surfers. It's weird how a lull happens just after someone says that, not a huge issue in the morning but when it's getting dark.......

yep fall for that one all the time. one last wave and before you know it the sun has gone down and you have to pick your way across a shallow low tide reef and then do your best to see the combination lock of your surf lock in the poor light and punch the right numbers so you can get dry and drive home to make dinner and change nappies etc etc.
but I love the arvo session. best way to finish a day off. although I would agree that the good old arvo glass offs have been far and few between this year.

Don't mean to sound like a downer but I couldn't disagree more. There's been heaps of great afternoons, especially lately. Autumn this year was great too, heaps of sessions after work.

I think it's a bit like people say there hasn't been good swells like there used to. I reckon they just don't try as hard as they used to, or they just don't appreciate it as much as they used to. There's still fun waves around, just gotta find them.

Have to agree. The wind, for me anyway, seams to be really playing ball. Must of got my memo. This has probably been my funnest Perth winter yet. Good swell, formed banks and the wind's been ****ing off when I wanted it to.

Used to happen daily at Smiths many many years ago... surf in the morning till either stuffed or the breeze came in - couple of pies and a rest then back out at 4pm till dusk...

Without wishing to stir the hornets nest... I kinda liked the daylight saving for the arvo surf... take the Mrs and kids w/lids down - fish & chips on the way home at 7:30pm... The early just doesn't happen for me.

Yep, DLS was awesome for surfing after work, my Mum & Dad voted no! I could have killed them for that!!

Down south is awesome for the arvo surf even if the wind is a bit funny cos you can always find a spot if you are in the no

Hornet's nest stirred GPA, awesome for an arvo fish, you could put in 5-6 hours drifting after work, caught a few like the one in the photo after working all day!! still do it but seems we come home in the dark more often without DLS, no use talking about it though as the majority didn't have the luxury of knocking off at 3pm every day, plus the cows got confused and the lycra clad bike nuts didn't like the dark, among other issues..
