Hi

just wandered over from the sup forum for some advice.

I've been considering getting one of these for when the surf is blown out and my son still wants to get out. Rather than standing on the beach watching him, I'm beginning to think it would be good to join the fun.

I used to be a fairly proficient prone surfer but I'm talking a few decades ago now. These Softech boards sound like a good idea but the ones that appeal are pretty short although they have quite a bit of volume.

The flash (5'7) looks nice but I wonder if the performance type shape would result in a reduced wave count compared to torpedo which I presume would have a flatter rocker. I'd also consider the Brainchild or Tom Carroll models.

Anyone have any experience of these or suggestions? Would a more traditional minimal or something a bit longer catch waves more easily?

Oh, I'm just under 6' and about 160lbs.

Cheers,

Chris

7ft softech is my when the surf is that bad and nobody goes out weapon of choice..

The smaller ones are not fun when conditions are that bad...

Have fun

Of and take the fins out

Thanks chrispy

just been for a look and my local surfshop has Odysea as well. Maybe the 7' Log would be a better call. They also have the Skipper in 6' (48l) and 6'6 (55l).

The Softech Torpedo is just so funky though!

Too much choice.

Dunno your weight bro, but unless your a beached whale learning to surf. I'd consider the 6'...the volumes are heaps floatier than glass bpards similar volumes. A mate has a 7'0 & it paddles better than my 9'4 Clearwater Whalebone. But its response is heaps delayed compared to shorter softtops (& my whalebone).
