Do any Perthicans know of some nice, smooth, sloped concrete to practice pumping on? The kind of sloped concrete that features in the car race in the movie Grease.



If not, anyone know of a good skating forum (pref. longboarding) where I can find answers to said questions?

Yes - practicing pumping is a satisfying thing

Hijack someone's yacht and go skurfing

Look carefully and you can find sloping Bunnings or supermarket carparks. Obviously go at night.

Also the Trigg to Hilary's cycle way is great with some gentle hills to practice your foot braking. High rise carparks are good too.

I am contemplating selling my Subsonic Gbomb Illuminati with the pumping bracket and Don't Trip Poppy trucks. 82a and 80a Speed Vent wheels. Interested? It would be a premium price though as its a premium board.

Silverfishlongboarding is a great skate forum with a LDP section and there are a few Perthites on there too.

Bunnings/supermarket carparks won't do - need something on at least a 30 degree angle so some speed can be generated.
I'm practicing goofy as a challenge to my normally regular footed self in the hope I can surf as well going forehand on a left as I do on a right someday, so really not looking for practice grounds that involve the need to break.


Have got an Original Longboard - Hybrid 35, so really looking to put my surf technique through its paces when summer comes into full swing.

When you said pumping I thought you meant long distance pumping. Sorry.

I used to take my young bloke to Greenwood train station car park(s) on a Sunday when he first got into longboarding. The lower sections will be empty and the paths and internal road there are wide and smooth...

For a half pipe -/ bowl etc you can find this no problem. Street wise you may struggle

The steepest street in the world is in Dunedin (in NZ) and that is one town with lots of hills. A 30 degree angle is very very very steep. Baldwin Street is measured as having a 19 degree angle - or 35% - in ratio terms think of it as 1:2.86 - so for every 2.86 metres travelled horizontally, the elevation changes by 1 metre.

The streets either side are very steep as well. If you are looking for a greater than 30 degree on a street or a path you will be looking for a while.

Yeah, 30 degrees seemed a good sort of figure in my head... but now maybe not! Either way, am looking for a long distance of I so can properly fit in a good couple of pumps. From that point of view, I don't think skate parks will work. But it looks like I might have to dust off the skate armour for some skate park action for the time being then.

I'm impressed you know it. I bombed that in the 80s. Actually, that's not quite accurate. I tried to bomb that in the 80s. It finished poorly. I did a better job on Sydney St in Tarcoola. Got to the bottom there as I was lying down luge style. Then I couldn't stop before the highway and had to abandon ship and got flung into the lamppost at the bottom.

Too much traffic. I did run very wide on that on a motorbike once.

Columbus Boulevard in Wandina would give you the best bang for your buck these days. It's not as steep as Snowdon but it is significantly longer. Plus there are two roundabouts at the bottom to encourage you to stop you before you get spat out onto the Brand Highway and under a passing truck.

Try Waylen rd off the side of green mount. There's not much traffic and it's a solid 4 or 5 minute downhill run with a couple of good steep sections

I think a few of the cycle path underpasses have banked paved sides, the one under Manjoogoordup Drive near the fwy in Mandurah comes to mind. Did a quick google search and found another likely one in the images, but I don't know where it is. If you ever get across to Brisbane, the stormwater ditches over there are great fun ;-)
