Haha, how much is a bit of money? Could go ceramic bearings. Google "Bones Swiss". or Bones super reds are a bit cheaper than that.

Ceramic are the smoothest but are overkill, a decent set of bones, reds or better is fine for a cruiser.

Maybe bigger wheels might be your solution.... What size are your current ones?

Not sure, I will have a look tonight. The bearings it came with were, well, um,,,,,,, crap tbh.

I grabed some sector 9 green things and they are ok but Im sure I can get better ones.

Im not sure I want to go for a bigger wheel tho. Day off tomorrow so I will have a better look at some skate shops

Thanks fellas

Doggie - there's some good articles on skateboard bearings if you google...

The ABEC rating relates to engineering tolerances and not necessarily speed...

Having said that, I upgraded my cruiser from ABEC 7 to ABEC 9 and definately noticed the difference. That said, my son who runs a harder compound wheel set (for sliding) and beat me on a standing start downhill on same diameter wheels and ABEC 7's. Same deck, and I'm 20kg heavier.

From my research, cheaper boards use ABEC 3... and OK ones usually ABEC 5.

I ordered mine on-line off Skateboard Express... about 1/2 price.

There's a few crew who longboard skateboard in the LB room... if you dare!

Go to your local bearing shop and buy some non contact seal 608 bearings. NSK, FAG. NTN,SKF.

The quality of the skate board wheel or axle is no where near the quailtity of a real Abec bearing supplied for the proper application.

Precision ball bearings in tolerance grades ABEC-5 and ABEC-7 are recommended for applications where high speed and/or extreme running accuracy is required. Machining, dental drills etc.
These bearings have the same nominal external dimensions as equivalent size ABEC-1 grade bearings, but running characteristics and external dimensions are held to closer tolerances. You skateboard isn't

Its all in the marketing.

Correct, but I think ABEC is now improperly used to loosely denote skateboard bearing quality... as you say - by company marketing...

Abec is a standard used in the bearing industry. The higher the number the less resistance. Off the top of my head I think it goes abec, 3, 5, 9.

For skating, abec 3 is fine.

Yes it is used in the bearing industry but not to measure friction. Its a measure of eccentricity of the inner ring to outer ring of the bearing. Thus the manufacturing tolerances are tighter the higher the abec number. The costs in making such bearings is very expensive.

The info I posted is from SKF web site not made up by me. the Chinese will put what ever you want on a bearing or the packaging.

But what would I know after 25 years in the bearing industry....

Had a bit of a play on the weekend

Got some new wheels, a bit bigger in diameter by about 2-5mm. Orangatang Fat-Free in orange(80a) 65mm. Very fricken grippy

I used to find bearings didn't matter much but the wheels make way bigger difference.

That depends on how bad your bearings were.

The original bearings were not that great, infact cheap crap. But the board was cheap

The wheels were good but the new ones are great, changed the board in a good way

Product Description

Orangatang Fat Free wheels. Designed for freeriding. Grippy when needed with consistent slide characteristics, a good all round wheel.

Offset design and a relatively wide contact patch for grip. Rounded inner and outer lips with stiff flex for clean slide initiation and smooth, chatter-free slides. 65mm is intended for wheelbases under 30" / 75cm and will ride a little rougher than a larger wheel due to its size.

Agree to disagree??

I agree. You did not post how they are pre ground for slide imitation. They are not a very freaking grippy wheel. I own them and know. I deleted my post at another forum users request and understand their reasons. _ so your post has stood by what I said lol.
