hey guys, just picked up an ECS drifter ( ecsboards-australia.com.au/products/drifter-pu-2-0#erid2484807 ) at price I couldn't pass up and the board looked rad and something different. It has the 5 fin option with a Longboard middle box. Being only 6,2 and wanting to get a middle fin to try it as a single what would be the length of fin that would suit. Heard one inch per board but a 6-6.5 inch fin doesn't seem that big unless using it with site bites. Any advice on this length of board even other boards or anyone that has used the board would be great. Cheers all

I had a 6'2 also...they were selling them with plastic quads & a carbon fin about 7 inches, can't check atm coz I'm overseas. Tested the board with different non plastic quad/thruster & the single fin supplied. But I found the board really sluggish. The rails are just too boxy through the tail. Ok for really fat slow peeling waves but there are much better options out there. I sold it after 3 months for a $100 loss, but kept the carbon fin. Found quad setup best.

Personally I'd be riding that as a quad or 2+1.

But if you wanted to go a single I'd say something 7-7.5 inch with a fair bit of base.
General rule is short, stiff upright fins back in the box for pivot or more flex, raked fins further up on the box to draw out your turns.

A good starting point is to lay it flat on the board with the bottom of the fin on the stringer and slide it up till a third of the fin is hanging over the rail than stand it up and should be pretty close to the right spot for that fin.




Something like this in a 7 might be OK.

Yeh cheers fellas, might need a bit of power in the wave to get that tail going I guess. Will give it a surf and see what happens. Found an old 6.5 middle fin might try it with some small quobba sides and see how it goes

If it's a 6.5 fin and your using side flyers ( smaller ones like ) put the fin at least two thirds of the way towards the tail in the fin box 66% of the fin box length towards tail

Wow, today had a blast on the board finally got it out in some decent surf and it's a whip. So fun 6.5 middle and side quobba fins.

Plenty of volume forward to get into the wave and then when you get back on the pin she just turns on a dim. Such a fun board creating some nice high lines and even pulling up and hitting the lip. this board has really Surprized me. Cheers guys
