Hello,

I'm looking at getting a new surfboard with a bit more volume as I am not getting out to often anymore. And getting a bit older(Kids etc......) In the past I have usually got my boards from a local brisbane shop called primitive surf. Which I have always loved their boards.

I noticed sideways surf has boards for as low as $370 one in particular called the chosen one which has a fair amount of volume to get onto waves easily and is apparently good to have a bit of fun not which is the sort of thing I've been looking for.
The price is good but I was concerned being so cheap what the quality is like..
Has anyone had any experience with these boards??.

Cheers

I had a sideways board about 5-6 years back, similar shape to the chosen one, was good, typical PU board. Good for the price.

My view.....if we keep buying cheap knocked of shapes. Well we are ****ed. Maybe not in my lifetime, but eventually there will be no d cent shapers....
Or,we might end up with thomos, who shape some and whore it out. Nothing against him, just a name that is the flavour atm, along with Hayden and co...
To me buy local, made local...or buy second hand to stop this destruction of Aussie made boards.... Flame suit on....but please don't use the price,as I have seen so many nicely priced boards on eBay alone atm. My final word is.....if you argue about price, just think where your pay cheque could end up in a few years....yep as a knock off oversees

I agree with chrispy. If you know what's up, then it doesn't hurt to buy a board sold or shaped by someone who has actually seen the ocean before.

I'm guessing you're in the Gold Coast? Go to palm beach to the board life... They shape all they're own boards locally... One of the brands they stock is duranbah... Around 500 but you get Aussie made out of local quality materials... I'm already sounding like a advertisement so ill stop there... Buy a board from china and you may or may not regret it but at least this way your helping out our local surf industry and you'll get shop support... And maybe a stick of wax....

Thanks All,

I'm going to go order my board from Primitive this afternoon.
I do feel uncomfortable about the imports and not supporting local industry. Besides i have been pretty happy with their boards also.

Cheers and thanks for the comments.

Go chrispy! I think our Australian based shapers and shapes are probably the highest quality in the world. We are already getting value for money. I have seen some of these cheap surfboards. Do yourself a favour, get one shaped by a real shaper-then you have something to admire and bragg about.
