My 7yo youngster is desperate for a 'white' board for his birthday. Potential true waterman, ripping it at nippers surf club (finished last season up in u10s), strong paddle boarder, has had a 7' soft board for few years (incl using it for SUP with my old outrigger paddle) but desperate to join the big kids standing up on a short board.

He's skin and bones, light as, but plenty of muscle for paddling out

Any views on size, brand, style?

Live northern Perth suburbs, usual mild waves. Clearly he'll stay in the smaller stuff he's used to for the winter, move up a notch next summer. Don't want to get him something will outgrow (in terms of both weight and ability) too easily.

Hey brother sounds like the grom is going of. The last time i went into the surfboard room he had a few grom boards second hand for sale. Maybee hunt around and see whats out there. Years ago I picked up a five foot singo perfect for groms starting out at a garage sale for nothing but I have two mouths to feed myself. Happy hunting.

my kids gone thru the same process

get wide 19-20", thin 2", less than 6ft

got my kids a watercooled model in epoxy that have been excellent

width gives stabilty and extra volume, thinness easy to duck dive and some looseness

too thick = hard to turn
